Re: rant advance auto parts

A friend of mine drives a '73 Beetle to school, and one of these days we are going to go to Advance or Auto Zone and tell the kid at the computer we need a radiator hose for his beetle. I bet he searches the computer for 10 minutes looking for a radiator hose for an air-cooled VW. Then he'll probably go ask the manager and make a complete idiot of himself.

Bought a set of plugs there, started putting them in found last one broke in the box. Took it back, they said I never bought it there cause it didnt go to the engine I was working on. I threw it at him and left. Never to return.

Re: rant advance auto parts

Hmmm. I've never had a problem with Advanced, it's Autozone that I have my troubles with. The Advance that I use is pretty new to the area, so maybe they are trying a little harder.

I agree - I don't know what the original problem was. Did you buy some rocker arm nuts from them, and one of them was bad?

Re: rant advance auto parts

I've worked for Advance Auto Parts for the last 6 yrs. and if you think it's tuff at times being a customer there or at any other auto parts chain, you should try waiting on stupid people that dont even know what there driving or the ones that want you to tell them what they acually need for there car when you have never laid eyes on them or there car! In the words of Ron White "YOU CANT FIX STUPID"
To all of you that shop at Advance thanks for helping my 41K plan out.lol
good luck

Re: rant advance auto parts

big orange, I know what you mean dude, a buddy of mine is a parts manager at a local motorcycle dealer, some of the cats that come in there asking retarded questions, ...... Then get bitter because the parts guys has no idea what they mean, or what the part is they're holding in their hands!!

For the other issue's listed, there are lazy, sticky finger people all over the world, which may be the case on the motor issue above, and the last piece of the puzzle is some of the Parts or alses reps are actually clueless and really don't give a **** about anything!!

The key is, find a good retailer with a counter guy that knows his stuff and go there exclusivly! It will keep your blood pressure down and make life a lot easier.

Re: rant advance auto parts

Never had any problems buying or returning parts with either one. To me, you should know a little about what you're looking for before you even go in to these stores. Even if you don't know, don't blame the counter guy for making the parts, or what the computer tells him what part you need. And if you do have a problem with any counter person/manager that won't solve your problem, take it to the next level. Go to the "Head Man", "The Big Cheese", "The Leader", etc.

I agree, some parts are junk, but you can thank the makers for shipping their work out of the U.S. At least there are still warranties.

Granted, there are a few counter people out there that don't care, and those will be weeded out soon enough. But, like all of us have done, starting out not knowing much about cars/trucks, but are willing to learn.

Like BIG ORANGE & HoupPhotography said, try working on the other side of the counter once, & watch "YOU CANT FIX STUPID" people come in.

'nough said....
