fuel gauge sending unit testing

I have installed my tank and it is empty of course ( will have to take out another loan to fill it) HA! anyway i decided just for kicks to put a meter on the terminal and ground .............it has full continuity through the meter. I assume this is typical since the gauge and al;l worked fine before the tank was removed////?????????

Re: fuel gauge sending unit testing

If the tank is empty, the meter will show 0 ohms or no resistance. You can always remove the sender from the tank and test it as well. When it is full it will show 90 ohms.

Re: fuel gauge sending unit testing

so what I see is full continuity or zero ohms?

Re: fuel gauge sending unit testing

sorry, I don't use OHM meters enough to understand. I use them as a continuity tester or a volt meter to trace wires with. If I follow you, the fact that the meter goes way up , meaning good continuity to me, when the meter is set on the ohms scale, then if it was full the meter would read low?

Re: fuel gauge sending unit testing

No ohms=continuity, when in the empty position, when sending unit is moved to full position the meter should be reading 90 ohms.
