Removing transmission
I have my engine out, and want to paint my fire wall. I noticed I wont be able to get at the area as well as I would like, and need to pull my TH350.
Is there anything I need to do, or watch out for? Will I have to jack up the truck and lower it from underneath? I'm thinking I'll bolt it up the motor and stab it in all at once. Is this a good idea? Thanks, s/t

Re: Removing transmission
that is the only way to do it IMO. that way you don't have to mess with trying to get the top tranny bolts in. easiest way to do it would be to get the truck on jackstands, unbolt the crossmember and trans, jack up the trans and make sure it is secure, slide the crossmember out of the way, and lower the trans. this is the way i have done it in the past, maybe someone has a different method..
good luck! andy |

Re: Removing transmission
With the front body clip out of the way you shouldnt have any trouble getting it all in or out as one piece.

Re: Removing transmission
If you can, brace the frame rails side to side. When i unbloted my crossmember, slid it back and took the trany out, on reasembly, the fram and bowwed in. I couldn't get the top 4 bolts back in the frame to the crossmember.
Wedge a 2x4 in there before you unbolt it. or something. That thing was a monster to get back in.

Re: Removing transmission
S/T, you don't have to unbolt the crossmember from the frame. All you have to do is unhook everything from the tranny and pull it out through the front and when you put it back in (all in one piece) you just have to pick up on the tail of the tranny to get it over the crossmember and just line everything back up and bolt it up.

Re: Removing transmission
I would raise the front of the truck, put a jack under the trans. take the board out & cover the trans with plastic & paint.

Re: Removing transmission
Thanks for the suggestions! wrenchbender- I need to be able to roll it outside before I paint it.
