think this can be buffed out?

Road was wet, my buddy was infront of me, slammed his brakes and i slammed mine, only difference was his held mine didnt, slid into his backend and took out his bumper and tailgate, maybe bent his frame, and did this to my truck, i might be able to get away with a front clip and bumper, i was hoping to not bring insurance into this, my dad can straighten his frame and body and ill get him a new bumper and tailgate, my buddy could paint the whole truck for him (has some other dings and scratches from offroading) but his dad says he has to report to insurance company.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

keep an eye out for a front clip for me andrew, i dont know if im pulling the motor and ditching it on the farm till i can swap it to etiher a shortbed frame or a 4x4 frame and restore it or just do a simple clip swap to get it driving again.

In the meantime ill probably drive the camaro, may not run perfect and wipers have a bad restistor but it runs.

May have to purchase a commercial one, I don't think any off the shelf one would do a very good job.
Sorry to hear, I know it's a bummer.

Ouch. What put the big vertical dent in the hood? Did he have a 2x16 plank standing on edge hanging out the rear or something?

Re: think this can be buffed out?

it bent to the main hood braces in the center, his truck was tall enough to go over my bumper.

Just went back to it, looked it over, it was running when i shot it off so i reconnected the battery (took it off earlier to prevernt a short and fire before i left it) and it ran, but smokes under the hood so i shut it off and as i thought, it was just sliding over the waterpump pulley. So i cut the belt and drove it up on the trailer and brought it home and unlaoded it. The old man is pissed, but i think hes not as bad as he could have been. My buddies okay, thats the most important part, neither of us were hurt, you can trade iron all day long but life can only be lost.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

the cab supports have rust as does the bed, and all the paint broke out with rust bubbles. I think i might throw a good front clip on, eventually weld on some patch panels for teh cab, then find a nice bed and paint it back to factory colors.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

thats when i first got her three years ago, the weather of kansas really swallows these trucks whole, plus shes been a daily driver, winter beater and a work truck all three years, never let me down.

Heck, she was even still running after the accident, all i had to do was cut her fan belt (fans inbedded in the radiator/radiator support) and she was still chugging along, shes a champ now @1007xx.x miles.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

Looks like you didn't bend the frame, and if you did it aint much. Throw a new front clip on and call it good. Looks like you might even get to reuse one fender, headlight bezel, and the bumper.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

i dont have any parts for you but i prolly have a decent driver quality set of marker lights and some crappy headlight bezels if youre desperate for something to stick on there once you get the parts... how about getting aftermarkets from one of our board vendors they have decent stuff?

Re: think this can be buffed out?

i might get aftermarket from the vendors, found a 77 clip in texas, nearly rust free doghouse with the correct 77 trim, and he comes to kc everyonce in a while, so its probably what im gonna get, and i got a near perfect grille in my 77 burban, and i can find some trucks to rob the chrome pieces off of, advantages when your dad has 150 cars and trucks haha.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

some update pics on my truck, and a picture of my buddies truck i hit. That sticker taunted me on, or as he was telling people, i was just getting him ready for derby season.

Some people wonder why we are still talking, i mean if a bunch of sheet metal can break a friendship, were you friends to begin with?

I have driven 3/4 tons a long time, and they sure don't stop good, I did the same thing to my 3/4 that I had in high school.

Re: think this can be buffed out?

plenty of pictures, just the way you like em

Got the front clip off, looks really different, owned the truck since around my 16th birthday, so ive never had to do anything more than a starter, alternator and dizzy.

only damage form cab back really, where the factory jack rod got slammed into the firewall, had to take the metabo to chop the rod in half from how much tension was still on it.

left fender was so buried i couldn't get door open, so i cut it from the outside with the metabo, left fender was gone anyway.

don't know how the lower fenders were still held on, gonna have to design a bracket to hold the fenders now.

Hope you guys like the progress, first real build thread lol.

Now is the time to spray paint the engine. Wrap the engine and shoot it!!
