Question Disc brake proportioning valve question

I got alot done today on my truck but ran into a snag at the end of the day I got a front end alignment done first thing in the morning and headed up to 70GMCers house to put on new rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and rear brake lines. We took off the rear line on the prop valve and blew compressed air thru the line to the rear and cleared out the crud!. Then when trying to bleed the rear wheel cylinder I heard a pop in the prop valve and could tell it became "uncentered" and turned the warning lamp on. We tried to clamp it with a C-clamp but it didn't work and also took it for a drive to slam on the brakes to try to recenter it but no luck. The valve has been perfect until we were bleeding the rear and it popped. Is there any other way to recenter it before I buy another valve????

Just get in the truck and stomp the pedal Hard with the key on to see if you got it to go out...That's what fixed mine...Good luck...

George, when I did my disc brake conversion last year that trick worked perfect but this time it won't recenter when I try to slam on the brakes.

Update! after talking to Cyclone44 I realized I was supposed to stomp on the pedal while the truck was parked I just went out and stomped it one time and the light went out! Now I just have to bleed the rears and I should be golden!. Thanks George and thanks again to Steve for all your help today! Hopefully I can take the truck to the Maryland cookout next Sunday!

A lot of times all you have to do is "balance" the pressure by opening a bleeder on the front.

Longhair- thanks for the tip!
George- I rented the super nice bleeder kit thinking I could do it but I can't figure it out. This kit is brand new. The clear tubing is a little too big for the bleeder so I used one of the supplied reducers and added a smaller diameter hose but it still wouldn't pull any fluid when I cracked the bleeder.

Thanks George, my wife and I were out when you called and I didn't get your message until late this evening. I tried the gravity bleed method and then gave it a few easy pumps but didn't get a chance to road test it to see how it feels. The hose from the one man kit kept popping off the bleeder so I gave up on it and plan to take it back in the morning. The next thing I have to fix is a leak at the union on the axle. It's probably something simple. I tightened the new line as tight as possible- maybe too tight!
