Question Cutting coil springs need help!

Hi Im going to cut my coil springs today maybe 1 1/4 coil , when you cut a coil spring you need a new rubber pad? or a special pad for cut springs?

That ^^^ is no help to anyone. The point of a public message board is to share, so that others can get the same information.

Answering the original question.....
I would say that "it depends" on the condition of your originals. There is no "special" pad for cut springs. If your old ones are ok, then reuse them. Get new if they are shot. I wouldn't leave them out though (some do) clunks and squeeks can happen.

Ah.......ok, but if you sent him a PM, he got a notification during his next log-in. An answer here would have still been better.

Is "cutted" a word? Just a good laugh, no harm intended.

Re: Cutting coil springs need help!

My experience .

I tried to get my truck to sit the way I wanted . I installed new stock springs . Too high . I removed springs from another truck that sit about the way I wanted mine to sit . Wasnt the same when I installed them in my truck . I then cut one coil from my new set of springs and reinstalled . Too low and it really rode like CRAP . I threw the coils away and I ordered a set of Belltech 1 inch drop springs and installed them . Sits right and rides nice . You can see how much work I did only to buy the right springs and install them after wasting money and a lot of time . My suggestion would be to use aftermarket springs or spindles . The ride is nicer . Frank

Re: Cutting coil springs need help!

just spend the $$$ and do it right the first time buy some only cost bout 75-100 dollars tops. none of use will ever agree if it ok or not to cut coils in my opinion it will screw up your ride especially if your cutting the origional coils .you will be asking for problems

Re: Cutting coil springs need help!

curious, how many coils can you cut before the coils are loose in the spring pocket with no tension when the car is off the ground?

Re: Cutting coil springs need help!

I cut 1.25 coils from my 325k miles fronts. It dropped maybe 1.5". Looked pretty nice with 2" shackles.

I am not upgrading to 2" drop springs with 3"spindles. Shocks so far are undetermined.

if im understanding right,, u cut ur 3" front drop springs, a quarter,, sorry for the dumb question,,lol,, I have been thinking on doing the same thing but was afraid that cutting the 3" spring any more then that would be to short,, other option would be 1" drop spindals, I cant afford.

I use to ad photos here but dont remember how,, so u can click below,, thanks
