Re: antenna mounting problems

Here is a pic of my"antenna" lol. Thats all that is there but it works great, even for distant FM stations! Not sure why it works, but have been unable to find a mast to bolt on existing pieces.

FM radio antanna is in the body of the radio it's slef and uses the ground of the truck as part of the antanna. the AM part of the radio must use a outside or mast style antanna to work. thats the why it works for you. 463

Yep I have the same problem. Hole is too large for the antennas at the auto parts. I've tried different methods including a big washer on the bottom but I'm not happy with that setup either.

I have a cowl that doesn't have an antenna hole and I've been tempted to drill a smaller hole for an antenna. Not sure if I'm going to do that, though.

Re: antenna mounting problems

FM still needs an antenna, the unit should not have it contained. I've had too many cars get vandalized with hoodlums ripping the antenna off.... and FM never worked til the mast was replaced. Even in the current rig, my burb, I had to use a test lead wire with alagator clips on the stub on the cowl before I could pick up any stations at all.
You can get repro units to fir the hole perfect, but they aren't cheap.

Re: antenna mounting problems

yep, you are going to have to blow around $60 for a new reproduction piece. I tried the auto store antennas, but there are just as you describe. The 2 mounting swivels are too short.

I bought the reproduction and it works AND fits perfectly.

Which one did you get? Was it from one of the vendors here on this site?
