My bad luck story

Can anyone relate to this? Last summer I was looking for hens teeth. Well actually not hens teeth. Looking for a short bed. Haha almost hens teeth in the rusty hills of Mo. After months & hrs of driving around looking, spotting etc. Finally found a step side bed in a junk yard. Not exactly what I wanted but would do. Bought it brought it home dissassembled the darn thing took had it media blasted. Bought all new wood, new strips all new stainless polished stuff. After shooting everything in etching primer (not cheap) I pull my new boards out of the tube and lay em down on the bed. WTH is that everything including the strips are exactly 6 inches too long. Who says size don't matter?? Come to find out someone cut the bedside and removed 6 inches from sides and shortned the bed.??? I was in a bad mood for two weeks later. Long story short was I bought all new bed stuff from a vendor.
One month later @ a swap meet entire good shortbed step disassembled for $200.. Lets hear your story of bad luck!!

Re: My bad luck story

What's with people cutting down short steppies? Why?

There's another fella on here that had one that had been cut down by a PO. I know him, and while it didn't look exactly bad, it certainly didn't look better. He has a thread floating around here somewhere on the fix, frame and new(er) bed.

I just never could imagine what'd possess someone to do that?

And yeah, it'd surely suck to figure it out after all that money/time spent.

Re: My bad luck story

I was told by someone to use them on a S-10 or something. I have to admit they done a outstanding job cutting between the stake holes etc. All welded up to look close to factory. Rule 1 bring tape measure.

Maybe someone doing an extended cab project will want it.
