Air compressor for general shop use
We like it says, I was always wonder why my air tool the didn't really work all that powerfull, So I finally found what my CFM is 6.8 which I think is very low??? I am probly in the market for a compressor that will allow me to use all my air tool at there full power and allow me to try using a paint gun. Anyone have any recomendations? my budget is about $500 or so..

Re: Air compressor for general shop use
I got this one. I runs everything but a DA sander. I bought the cheaper one at $299, and got $100 air tool set free. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...air+compressor
It does what I want. It has a single stage motor as opposed to the professional grades' 25 gal one that has a two stage motor. Its around $100. more. My only complaint is the one I bought is louder than expected. I would have gone larger, but don't have 240 in my garage.

Re: Air compressor for general shop use
those oilless compressors are pretty crappy the loud noise and by design they run with more heat so it causes more moisture in the air and they have a very limited lifespan// lowes and home depot have good prices of conventional compressors i suggest a 220v if you have the garage wired for it and at leeast a 60-80gallon tank on sale they're in the $500-600 range now

Re: Air compressor for general shop use
I agree about not going oil-less. I have a 26 gal compressor that I bought from Home Depot. It does work well for smaller jobs, body work, impact tools, air file and paint but you wouldn't be able to paint a car unless you do it in sections. Also, it's the quiet series but I think that means that anyone in the vicinity of the compressor should just be quiet as you can't talk or think it's so loud.

Re: Air compressor for general shop use
thanks for the replys I took a look at homedepot http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...3+90401+524403
It puts out 11.5/10.2 SCFM @ 40/90 PSI which should be pretty good for what I need it for.

Re: Air compressor for general shop use
$500 will buy a new motor for this one. But it also takes 208 V 3 phase.
