did some measuring on the 85 swb frame and it is 117.5 inches, then mesured a 69 swb and its 115, how come i hear that the 85 frame is 4.5 inches longer when it is really about 2.5?? does an inch need to be cut off each end? or 2 on either end? has anyone done this before? like a 67-72 on a newer frame? any info at all would be sweet

I think the 4.5 inch deal is for a long wheel base truck.

why are your using a 73 and up frame?

Cut out of the middle/ like behind the cab. I just cut 1 1/2 inch on mine. If ya dont the axles/ hubs wont be n the center of the wheel opening.

4.5 inches IS for lwb trucks, 67-72 is 127 and 73-87 is 131.5

inch and a half eh? i talked to a couple guys with swb's today in town and they said that the gap from the box to the cab is really tight, and that they wish they had maybe 1/2 an inch more...one guy sai his has actually rubbed before, so that leaves me with an inch, couldnt you cheat and have the wheels a half an inch off in each fenderwell? do u think it would show much? if need be we will get it shortened but any ways to save a buck is cool, hooter: the 71 deal went down the poop shoot, the guy building it is taking too long according to the deal and has planned to take shortcuts which me and my dad dont think are a good idea, so instead we are going to use a swb 85 frame that we got today and put the 67 on it, it will take some fabbing but i think it will be worth it in the end, it allready has been lowered 6/5 from what i can see, has posi, disc brakes and power steering, and all this **** for 250 bucks so i dont think we can really go wrong..thats the plan right now anyways

I was going to get a 67 stepside for parts. But the guy sold it to someone else for a pound of weed. Oh well

I am sure you would have had use for the frame. I sure would have had use for the 202's

1 1/2" on the shortbed? here's a thought......how about moving the spring hangers foward, then just trimmin the back as needed? crazy AL

crazy, i was thinking that but the frame rails arent flat all the way back, they sorta arch up over top of the wheels, so wont that screw me up?

you would have to do a little measure to be sure, but i think it might work. as another thought, if you are building a stepside, you could move the fenders to fit the wheelbase. It would just be a little redrilling, & welding up holes......also stretching the steps. good luck.....crazy AL

mudder, what year is your frame? what all did you have to mess around with to get hte cab mounts to work and the rad support

mines a 4x4 and it didnt has the tall hump so we used a body lift to get the cab up off the transfer case, tranny, and to make sure there was enough room to get the distributor out. I used the 67 cab mounts and mounted them in just about the same location as the ones on the 77 were. If i remember ('86) we may have used a couple of the holes for the 77 cab mounts. i have pics of all my mounts if you wanna see them.
