Clearance issues on air cleaner for 396

I just replaced my Quadrajunk with a Holley Street Avenger. however I had to use an adapter to get it to bolt up correctly with my 396 which means I lost some clearance with the hood.

I need to locate a low profile or an air assembly that sits recessed around the carb.

Any help on recommended replacements would be great!

Thanks!

Is it an open type air cleaner, if so you could try a smaller filter

I am running the avenger on a 350,with a edelbrock air cleaner. It seems to sit a little lower than some. You will like the avenger, mine worked great out of the box.

I am running an Edelbrock 650 cfm with the adaptor plate on a raised Edelbrock intake. All on my 402 bbc. I don't have any clearance problems.

i highly doubt you'll have issues... have you tried closing the hood, or measured your hood clearance w/out the stud?

Stand an empty small paper coffee cup on the air cleaner and let the hood down slow and easy. It will mash the cup if too low.

Re: Clearance issues on air cleaner for 396

thanks for the links, input, and suggestions. Definitely a clearance issue (no question) so may try to go with a smaller filter, then opt for the recessed option available through Summit....

much appreciated.
