I've decided to get the parts together for a trans swap to an automatic. I found a 700R4 locally that's been rebuilt and has a new converter. It's out of an 88 Camaro and sat behind a 350.

I searched and read where an 88 or newer is the recommeded swap for the 700R4. I know I will need to have a driveshaft made regardless. Do I need to look for one out of a pickup, or will the camaro one fit (tailshaft length and what-not).

2wd 700r4's come in one size only. Check out bowtieoverdrives, they have a lot of good information.

You don't have a drive shaft now? If you do, you an use it if it's got a 30 spline yoke on it, just cut it down. Also, you can use a 350 yoke vs the more expensive 700r yoke.

I did check out the website. I may order their cooling tube kit. It beats bending tubing any day.

My truck has a 3 spd manual in it now. I haven't even looked at the currently installed driveshaft or yoke yet. Good to know info about the less expensive 350 yoke when the time comes.

Don't overlook the tv cable, its the most important setup on this trans, if its not set up correctly it will be short lived, bowtie overdrive has two types of cables, "tv made easy" one is steal braided (the one I got) and the other is your ordinary black self adjusting type, I installed one in my truck and never touched the drive shaft......also I went with the lokar shift linkage, works well in my cituation.... good luck

BTO stuff makes it pretty easy if ur not mechanically inclined (me). I had to shorten the driveshaft 3.25in for my blazer. When(if) you have the driveshaft shortened (depends on if you have long or short tail tranny but I can't speak for the manual), you can have them swap out the yoke.

May also want to have the tail changed for a mechanical speedo cable verses elec sensed.
