What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

After replacing mine, and yanking the leaking one out of the sorry-a$$ parts truck I now have to get rid of them. There's some traces of fluid, and they're bent up and corroded...any ideas?

The scrap metal places will buy them from you for the weight of the copper. It may not pay for your gas though!

Your local scrap metal dealer will probably pay you for them. Most pay by weight

Re: What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

Call em first. There is something you can do to them to make them worth more. You knock something off first, but I dont remember what it was. Scrap places love em. I think I have about 6 of em. I need to take and a bunch of carcasses.

Copper is getting real pricey. I just replumbed a bunch of stuff in my house...moved the hot water heater and washing machine. A 1 x1 x 3/4 T-fitting was almost 8 bucks. A 10ft one inch pipe was almost 40 bucks.

Re: What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

What I did was get my torch out and melt off the radiator tanks. The tanks are brass and the rad is copper. The scrap places will pay more if the metal is what they call "Clean". In other words, separate the different metals from one an other. I had around 65 lbs. of copper & brass the other week, and got $107 from it. Last week I had 800 lbs of engine parts and suspension parts and they paid me $67. This stuff was just taking up space in the garage.

Re: What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

Guys. Scrap is high right now. I just walked out of the scrap yard 3 days ago with about 900 pounds of weight and got 142.00. So those old radiators are going to bring enough to buy gas and lunch. Scrap here...meaning tin...doors fenders...stuff like that 190.00 a ton

You just have to take the steel off the old rads. I use a knife and a hammer to get the upper and lower straps off.

Copper and brass are about the same, just take the steel braces off the top rail and bottom rail they are worth about $50-100 each. Copper is on the $3-5/lb range higher than it's ever been!

Re: What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

You could always turn one into a still. LOL.

My 00 s10 radiator with plastic sides brought me $35 at the scrap yard. Aluminum is fetchy a good heap too. A good t400 core is worth about $60 at the scrap yard. and only about 75 as a rebuildable core.

I bet you can sell them to a ford guy for a good price...... since that is the only thing that will make the ford cool...

(I don't know where that came from, but it sounded funny...)

Re: What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

My wife and I, own a recycling center and we also buy scrap metals. Call your local yard for prices. Some of the prices quoted above are really high. But, we also live in Cali. and have to ship our stuff nearly 300 miles away in the Bay Area. As said above copper and brass are nearly the same price, so sweating the tanks off isn't necessary. Our buyer sorts radiators three ways, clean copper/brass, clean aluminum, and dirty. Dirty means ferrous metals or plastic tanks attached. Make sure all the coolant and tranny fluid is drained also.

Re: What do I do with a couple of old radiators???

as for the iroc wheels, unless they are all kerfagled, they are worth WAY more as wheels than scrap. guys with beater camaros, squzre body camaros, 78 - 87 el-caminos and malibus..they all seem to like the camaro wheels, and in your area I think they'd sell on CL in a matter of days.
