Carrier barring ?

I know this has been talked about before, but what size cross member do you need to run a one piece drive shaft? my truck ate another one today, and i am done replacing barrings. Are there a certain size,or how do you know,if you can change over to a one piece? Thanks for all of your help.

Re: Carrier barring ?

Are you sure there ain't something wrong under there? cause you should'nt being chewing up carrier bearings on a regular basis. I hope someone chimes in on the one piece driveshaft question, i'd be interested to know as well.

Re: Carrier barring ?

I would think your drive shaft will end up flopping around and tear out u-joints, well maybe if you took one out of a 2 ton truck it might work?
Don't know, just seems to long with no support. Like eightbanger said, I think something is wrong.

Talking Re: Carrier barring ?

I had the same problem i would put a new one in and 2-3 days later it would brake. The guy at the driveshaft shop told me to make sure all my mounts were good both engin and trans mounts. so i replaced all and it lasted for maby a week and then he asked me if my truck was lowered and i said yes. He told me that as the suspention goes up and down the drive shaft moves foward into the tail shaft of the trans and my truck being so low it was pushing the driveshaft into the back of the trans untill it bottemed out and then the carrier baring would brake because the drive shaft was trying to bend in the middle. I asked him what i could do and he said he could put a slip yoke in the shaft so the front part stays in one spot as the back half moves with the slip yoke. So for $175 he put in a new slip yoke all new ujoints and put all the ujoints and yokes in a stright line ( in fasze) and balenced it and was done in 1 day and it has been almost 4 months and i havent had any problems yes nock on wood.If you need the number i will post it im in covina calif its about 20 min from la and the driveshaft shop is about 10min from me.
