Steering ram question

I need some input please. My wife has a co worker with an older (maybe 10 years old), but unused power steering ram kit for a '48-54 pickup. It does not include the pump or pump brackets, but has the hose's, pitman arm, rams, and everything else. I am going to put a dropped front axle on it (not going to ifs). He is asking $300 for the kit (it was $600 new). Is it worth it? This truck is going to be for the wife, and she'd really appreciate power steering, but I have no idea if it's worth that, or how good it even works. Thank you
