Clutch Fan
I'm excited about my new (new to me) clutch fan. Someone posted here about clutch fans vs flex fans, and all your opinions about flex fans flying off and destroying things scared me enough to run down the local wrecking yard and get a clutch fan.
The right ones are harder to find than i thought! I just mainly just wanted to bolt on application for very little money... but man alive, I had to really search around! I finally found a counter-clockwise turning 18" fan out of an early '80's camaro. The serpentine belt setups on the newer vehicles are reverse rotation so i couldn't use those, and all the older vehicles that turned the right direction were the wrong diameter... 19" or 21". Anyways, I'm happy, and the total cost was $14.11. The clutch is a heavy duty one out of a mid 80's chevy 3/4 ton. Here's some pics. In the first pic, the old flex fan that came out is in the background.

$14.11.....Wow! I had to pay $40 plus shipping on one from EBAY since I couldn't find one locally. This area is terrible when it comes to finding parts for these old trucks. Junkyards are either picked over or they don't have anything available. I guess they don't want to mess with old stuff...

All that searching paid off big time! That's just what you need, and the only way to beat that price would be getting it free. That oughtta keep her cool...

not only a good score, but a wise choise IMO. Electric fans are cool and free up a few ponies, but they are not as fool proof as a mechanical fan.

Great choice...I had a flex fan on a Jeep of mine and it "flexed" too much right into the radiator!
