Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

Hey guys,

Has anyone used these EarlyClassic.com LED tail lights in our trucks? They have the highest density of any I have seen, they claim 84 LED's each but I don't count but 78 each.

I am running clear rear lenses and the red incandescent bulbs just don't cut it.

Thanks for any input.

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

Hey guys,

Here is the comparison between the Musclerodz clear lens red LED lights like the Chiefs on the left and clear lens and red bulb lights on the right.

The first pic is the parking lights, the second is the brake lights.

The LEDs are even better than the pictures show.

Anyway thanks for the recommendation. Worked out good.

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

for $27 bucks you will spend more in parts. I have the musclerods ones also. They are pretty good quality and sealed solid with some type of crystal clear epoxy. Comes with lenses attached as one single housing unit. Love em!

Exactly....your better off just buying them...sometimes some things are better just left to someone else.

Now, are those LEDS not killer or what ?? They light up all the traffic behind you when your cruising the strip at night !!!!

Later...

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

TR65 - a pal of mine had a '68 Ford Fairlane once... and he had a similiar problem with the brake lights not lighting up as bright as he wanted. I think he still had the original lenses on there.

His solution was that he painted the light buckets, where the bulb plugs in with silver paint. Then, he plugged in the yellow blinker bulbs... which gave out a lot more light.

He did this on two different cars and never had any problems.

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

I bought a set for my stepside off ebay, and while they're bright as hell, I did notice they signal flashes a little slower. Any ideas why this would be? I've been using them for months now with no other problems. I had a guy hit my model A truck when I was stoped one time because he said he didn't set my tail light. When I get that put back together it will have a set of LEDs too.

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

That is because the LED's do not draw nearly as much current as the conventional bulb.....so they won't "heat" up the flasher and make it 'trip' or 'flash'.

In my case, since I have no hood (which means no front signals), it would not flash at all.

So you need to wire in some resistors, this will load the flasher and bring the 'flash' back up to speed.

I picked mine up at Kragen, right in the bulb isle. Two in the package, one per side. Radio Shack has them too.

You ground one side, then run the other end into the L/S turn wire and R/S output wires.

It shows to wire them at the taillights, but you can do it right under the dash...it's a hell of a lot easier.

Once my hood goes back on, and I have that 1156 back in the circuit, I will probably remove the resitors....the front bulbs should be enough to make it flash. Besides I would like to have the "slow" blink anyway....

Later....

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

would using an electronic flasher solve the low resistance issue in the circuit?

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

I do recommend going with the red lens. If I purchased over, I would get the red. for one... at night, yes they are really nice looking and bright. But in the day... I think they are harder to see when you brake. I have people *****ing behind me like if they never seen my brake lights or turn signal. Also, they clear you can see too much of the electronics that Im not too crazy over. They should of printed all the board info on the back side as well as the non LED electronics. Anyway... red would solve my issues with this lens.

Re: Anyone use EarlyClassic LED tail lights?

These guys have some interesting reading and products for LEDs:

http://superbrightleds.com/carbulb-notes.htm

If you want to do a relatively cheap conversion, they appear to have 1157 style plug-in LED "bulbs", a 12-count LED for $4.99 and a 30-count LED for $8.99.

At one time I was considering making my own LED-based system by using some NAPA LED trailer lights, and a couple Yamaha 100 headlight buckets I have laying around. But those trailer light LED counts are pretty low compared to the ones purpose made for our trucks, and the overall operation would not come out much cheaper since those trailer lights are about $24.00 each last I checked.
