noob.
 ive had my 73 k 15 for about 2 months and just got my licnese about a week ago. i dont understand how anyone can wait more than a second after they turn 16 to get theyre license. i walked home from school everyday to work on it just waiting for the day that i could drive it. had it ready to go the day before i passed the test. and i gotta say theres nothing like driving up to school and parking by everyone elses compacts. haha. as for miles to the gallon, i get about 10. is that normal? its gone through about a quart of oil in the week ive been driving it but im pretty sure the majority of it is out of the rear main seal. oh joy. i might replace the clutch will im at it. as for the truck. its got a 350 with flomasters. 4 spd w/ granny low. 3.73 posi. and a 4 inch lift with 35s. what ive done to the truck: new water pump. new power steering pump. new steering box. new tie rod ends. new bed liner. flex fan. what i did for the rest of the 2 months that it was in front of my house was fix all of what the previous owner messed up. i had to re-wire almost everything under the dash. the steering column is out of another truck and was just thrown in it. i had to take it all apart and take out all of the parts for the horn to get the retaining ring to fit on. ive also replaced every fluid in it. and to my joy when i took the rear differential cover off, about a cup of 90w came out. so after about 3 gallons for the whole truck its a lot better. i also had to tighten the nut on the rear yoke to get the play out of it. i also tore out the smog pump and a/c that didnt work. soon i should be putting some hookers on it to get rid of the injector tubes. theres also a lot of little stuff i did but its just to much to list. and i know your thinking my dad did all the work but he maily just told me how to do it and i did it. watching him for years has really payed off and im proud of the fact that i did so much to it my self. its a lot better than just buying something thats just ready for the streets in my opinion. so if anyone has and advice or pitctures of similar trucks i would love to see them. here she is.

But I tell you....tearing out all the a/c stuff sure does make alot of work for the next owner if you ever sell it. Not to mention opening up the system pretty much screws everything.

Thanks everyone! seems like the people here are more friendly than on some of the other ones ive been on.
and about the a/c. it had no pressure and the pump wouldnt engadge properly. also it wasnt stock. it was added later and not done to great. and i dont think i will ever sell this truck so no worries about the next owner.

I can only dream about 4wd...  Thats a beautiful first truck, and yes, 10mpg is about right. I have the same tranny and 32's and i get 12 mpg... Sad fact of life! |

the tranny is unbeatable for towing. I have pulled an 8000 lb load behind mine with no problem. Rock solid. Heard its easy to rebuild.
problems: not a racing tranny; no shift kits available; no mods available (only rebuild kits) all in all, i have no problems at all with it |
