Need pic of shackle angle
I am re building a 67 4x4 with late model HD springs (relocating mounts/shckle flip, etc.). Can someone posts pictures or suggestions for the shackle angle when the eight is off the tires? front and rear. Is it Forward or back of vertical?
THANKS!!!!

Re: Need pic of shackle angle
Shackle should be back. I like to see them about ten degrees with all the weight on the rig.
You can see what I did on my frame, where I positioned my shackle hanger, etc, pics are in my sig. |

Re: Need pic of shackle angle
my issue is that I have no weight on right now. I am trying to judge were the shackle to should lie with the tires off the ground.

Re: Need pic of shackle angle
looks like when you had bare frame in the air you lines the shackle mount to be straight above, correct?. How does that work out once the wieght is on? will that give the 10-20 degrees back angle?

Re: Need pic of shackle angle
67, depends a lot on your leafs. If they have a lot of arch in them they will flatten more when you put weight on them. A flat spring moves less. Also the number of leaves has an effect on how much it flattens out. As grendel said 10 degrees is a good rule of thumb. But you gotta design the spring system as a whole to get the best ride. And after all the location of the shackle is mostly about getting the best ride.

Re: Need pic of shackle angle
These leafs are K-10 with a add-a-leaf added, so it arched them about 1.5" more with no weight right now... (eye to eye is shorter now) It's a 68 SWB K-10
The front is stock HD springs (3 each) with no weight...
