The sad thing is the people with the power to do something about this don't seem to care about the working man trying to stretch his pay check to keep up with the way everything is going up beacuse of fuel prices....Help!

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Yep, sucks. But hopefully we get some good tech developements out of it. I could see retrofitting a 500hp electric motor into one of these trucks if the technology was there and priced right. I don't think these gas prices spell an end for our hobby, just some temporary pain while the industry catches up.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Even if they come up with some kind of ride that gets 100mpg not everyone can afford a new car. Hell, that's one the reasons I got my truck. No payments and I can work on it. I wish there was some way to put someone in office who knows what it's like to have to live from pay check to pay check. Maybe then the working man, and woman wouldn't get lost in the shuffle. Dreaming I know.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Seriously! We need to start drilling in the NWR in Alaska. Crap, we've got all that acreage set aside just for oil drilling! But, yeah I just spent almost $15 just to fill up the motorcycle- at $3.87 a gallon. Sucks.

And if it weren't for all those farmers switching their crops over to corn to get in on that retarded E-85 nonsense, our food prices wouldn't be skyrocketing either!

Well, I did get my $1200 from Pres. Bush. yay. That WAS going to be my grand slam drop/brake kit from CCP. I ended up using it to pay bills since the collision repair industry has slowed because the rest of the world is saving their deductibles to pay for gas!

Over here in England were at $10 (£5) a gallon! The government has most of that. Lukily i don't do too many miles! The price per gallon is a fraction less than the minimun hourly wage!

To find out when you'll receive your payment:

"It turns out there is a number. The IRS has set up a hotline so you can check the status of your rebate check.

That number is 1-866-234-2942.

Select option two when prompted. "

It asks you for your SSN, Number of Dependants Claimed and something else.

I called the automated system and was told mine was to be deposited tomorrow. According to the schedule I was supposed to have gotten mine last Friday.

Ya, but those developments spin off into the aftermarket very quickly. Just look at how fast the LS1's and other Gen-III V8's started showing up in classic rides after they came out. I'm sure we'll see hybrid. electric, and fuel cell retrofits start in the next couple years.

As far as drilling in Alaska is concerned, yes I'm glad we have that reserves. It's just a question as to when we tap it.

But ultimately I think the solution has been sitting under our noses for 50 years: More nuclear power production.

Not to go off in another direction... I'm glad for now that I have a short commute!

Yeah, my wife and I lived in London for a number of months in '06, and we were so amazed at the time that petrol was just about 1 pound per litre. It's nuts. No wonder they can sell stuff like the G-Whiz.

I saw that Mercedes is now selling the Smart cars here. They look so silly parked in the sea of Hummers and Navigators in the mall parking lots. HEY, I should have hit one of those instead of that Tundra! I'd at least still be driving it!
Did anyone in the Uk ever get the humor in Ford naming that basic little thing a Ka? I'd say, "look!, a Ka", and all the Brits would say "what KIND of car?" It was always funny to me...

But, yes. gas prices suck.

While I agree w/this, I'm concerned the 'future' won't combine well w/our classics. A fuel cell/electric hybrid power-plant would still work in a 60's - 80's truck, if it's packaged friendly.

These days the hybrids mount those storage cells under the vehicle since they utilize FWD so my guess is we'd have to lose valuable bed space which can be limited w/step notches & raised floors if you know what I mean. . ....

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I hear ya Scoti, but you are thinking about current technology. I'm talking about things to come that will be developed as a result of the economic stimuli to do so (high gas prices) For example

Yup, I have not driven my truck to work for some time now. It's all about the girlfriends civic She gets to roll in my ride, it's closer to her work than mine.

Just curious, what is an average yearly income for someone in England? In dollars.
