Windsheild removal
New to the board, not sure if this will be posted. But here it goes. I have a 71 Blazer that I purched from a friend after a tree fell through the drivers side bed corner. Fortunatly the top was'nt on and tub was rusted bad enough that frame pushed through. No frame damage. Have taken back half down to frame and replaced bed floor drivers side bedside wheel tubs. Currently front half, fenders inner wheel housings are off. My question for now is what is the best way to remove windshield? It probably won't be saved as it is cracked. Any advise will be helpful.

Re: Windsheild removal
Take a razor knife with a new blade and just cut all the way around. Knife laying against the glass with the blade under the lip cutting the rubber. Post up some pics of your project.

Re: Windsheild removal
Yep, new seal needed with this approach, but given the condition these are usually in, you would want to replace it even if you could get the window out with the seal intact.

Re: Windsheild removal
Cutting the windshield gasket is the way to go.
It's quick, easy and more importantly, it's the safe way to do it. I tried saving my seal once... Glass, profanities and that red stuff was everwhere that day. |

Re: Windsheild removal
If you want to save the gasket, go inside the cab, get a small diameter like one fourth inch cord or rope. Start at top behind mirror, take screwdriver and pry the rubber enough to put piece of the cord there, then repeat the process untill the entire top edge has cord stuck in behind it. The pry the edge of both corners and get some cordbehind there also and continue down both edges, before you get to the bottom you will notice the windshield starting to get loose, now you can apply pressure to the top and push wind shield forward thru the openning. This will save the gasket which I was told was very important because the new gaskets do not lay down well. Don

I Just Saved And Reused My Gasket It Was Not Original But Was In Good Shape
Taking Out Be Careful And Dont Force It Start At Top Middle Work To Outsides Once Corners Are Free Its Cake Putting Back In Wd40 And Plenty O Patience Start It On The Bottom Start Working Way Upward Go Back And Keep Applying Downward Pressure As You Work The Sides In It Will Keep Going Farther Down In The Bottom Channel Once Past Upper Corners Its Cake I Used A Small Flat Piece Of Aluminum With A Tight Bend In The End Of It For The Reinstall |

Re: Windsheild removal
Windsheild is history, saved seal, waste of time. Laid in tub and used the ole #12s to push out window. Rust holes behind seal in upper corners. Not sure how to repair at this point. There pretty small compaired to the ones you could drive a semi through on rest of truck. Cant post pics yet to busy working on blazer to load pc with camara hardware.
