New member here, hello all. I just got a new project truck. It seems to be relatively unmolested and solid. A few dings but fairly straight. There's a little bit of rust on the cab corners and a very tiny amount of rust-through in the foot area. Everywhere else looks perfect so far. Not sure what year it is yet.

The other side looks the same. All the glass is perfect, windows and doors work fine, GMC AM radio still in the dash. Alas the original V6 is lost to history, but the powerglide is still in there. There's an 80ish looking small block V8 sitting under the hood that allegedly will run, but all the accessories are off the engine asif someone was taking it all apart then stopped. Is it unusual to have what appears to be factory power steering? How about two spares? I paid $600, did I get screwed?

Welcome! $600, looks like a good deal to me! Its 64-66 range for sure.

If you needed to, you could probably part it out for $600, so I think you got a good deal

I'm not sure about GMCs, but I don't think power steering was available in '64. It certainly wasn't in 60.

Hello and welcome to the board. I just wanted to let you know that the power steering is factory. I had one on a 1965 Chevrolet C20 that I stripped down for parts and sold the the power steering unit minus the pump on Ebay for $450.75. So I would say you did good buying that truck for $600. I also had one on a 1965 GMC 4x4 that I bought to strip down for parts. At the time I did not know what it was and I threw it away. I don't know if it was factory being it was on a 4x4 because I have never seen another one on a 60-66 4x4, Chevy or GMC.

Looks like you got your moneys worth to me. And yes, that is an original power steering setup on your truck. Nice starting point for a good project.

Bummer on tossing that jewel in the trash. Don't feel bad, I've done worse. Thanks guys for the confirmaton on the factory PS. Somebody put a piece of heater hose in place of the PS return line. It's pretty soft now. I found a PS pump rebuild kit for like $10, but cant find anything to rebuild the valve thingy or the hydraulic ram.

Looks like you've got some work ahead of you. Just an FYI if you're searching for parts for that power steering, GM used that same setup on the Corvettes from the early '60's until the mid '70's (sorry I don't remember the exact years) Keep us updated with your new project.

I have bought many parts from them and they seem to be pretty good quality. Sometimes you get something that isn't up to par though.

It's been a while, but I'm back now. Life got in the way with working on the truck, then I got sick for a while. Feeling better now than I have for 20 years, no kidding. Truck sat for the last couple of years, squirrels made a home in my engine compartment and messed up my paint and alumicoat headers, but I can fix it. Got it inspected and a clear blue title is only $500 away. Driveway needs some work though.

I kid you guys not, a man tried to trade me a '99 mercedes slk230 hardtop convertible for it just last week, even up. I guess these things have gotten more rare in the past few years. People give me way more compliments than they do for my IROC. And just look at that mashed up passenger fender. Every panel on it has a crease or a dent of some kind. Even the roof.

I have pretty much all the stainless trim. I put my V6 emblems on today and the Custom emblems for the cab.

Man I got at least 200 hours in this thing and it barely looks any better than the first pic in the thread. Worse in some ways. But it's drivable and sounds awesome. Only a 305, but it's fresh built with a summit mild cam. I got the motor from a rebuilder that was going out of business a few years back. Rebuilt short block 305 for $200 that came out of a 91 z28. It's a roller cam block, but has a plain hydraulic cam in it.

Yeah, I love my truck especially now that I can drive it. It was a ton of work. Project is not a big enough word, more like a quest or magnum opus.

What kind of mess did they previous owner make when they installed the 360? My motor came with chains and these mounts:
