shock installation help

i am installing front shocks on my 69 chev 2wd
the kit came with the top mounting where it bolts onto the frame.
i was wondering if they had a torque?
and my book says where the shock mounts onto the spindle is 160 ft does that sound right

I don't know what the torque specs are but the nuts inside the frame need to be really tight. They are prone to comeing loose & wallering out the hole. That may be where the 160 ft.lbs. comes in but certainly not the bolt that goes on the lower control arm.

so i tightened the upper mounting to the frame as tight as i could get it.
then went to put the shock on and torque the nut and it broke the mounting what do you think?

put the old one back on, and don't torque it down so much.

If the old shock had it built in you will have to get a new stud. I have a bunch of them around the shop. If you can't find one locally E-mail me & i'll send you one. That outer nut does not have to be very tight.

My factory Manuel for 69 says 140 lbs for two wheel and 80 for the K series and only 75 for the outer nut

CPP sells a product that is a shock mount enhancement. It bolts to the frame and then transitions outside the shock and provides support on the outer end of the shock bolt. That way there is no loss of support and the metal bracket is on both sides of the shock mounting head.

i miss read the book and torqued the outer nut 140 instead of the nut that goes to the frame, but got it figured out
