6.2L Diesel

Anyone here have one? I am getting one and I have found some performance parts to help it up to atleast 750ftlbs. Post yours if you have one! Or post anything you know about them!

Re: 6.2L Diesel

I have one and have been looking for some things to give it a little more go. But all I have found lately is a set of headers and a turbo kit from Banks. But I need to get it running again before I do anything lol.

Re: 6.2L Diesel

Wanna pass on some details on how you can make that much torque reliably?

Re: 6.2L Diesel

Yeah man, that's more than double the torque the engine was rated at stock, you gotta start replacing rotating assembly parts if you're gonna run that much, and there's still the strength limitation of the block itself - IIRC there was an issue with them being prone to cracking in certain areas, and there are new castings (by World?) now that have much thicker webbing for avoiding just that... So yeah, what mods exactly you gonna do to this engine to achieve that high power level?

Re: 6.2L Diesel

I am of course gonna get the Sidewinder, a custom exhaust system, 3:42 or 3:73 rear end, bore it out a little, methanol injection, and a few other things.

Re: 6.2L Diesel

Riiight, and that's gonna get you 750lb-ft? No lower compression pistons, stronger rods, none of that? What about those weak spots in the webbing I mentioned, have you done any research on those?

Re: 6.2L Diesel

You would actually be dollars ahead doing a Duramax/Allison swap and starting from there. There's a lot more power potential in stock form there than in a 6.2 or 6.5.

Good, good - I ain't nagging on you just cause I'm a jack, tis just I've seen way too many projects begin all optimistic and end up poor, or not get finished at all, cause the person never planned it right.

Re: 6.2L Diesel

Make a stop at www.thedieselpage.com and www.thedieselplace.com

Both websites have forums full of a great deal of information. I personally feel that 750 ft lbs is a very optimistic number. I'd suggest that a very well built 6.5L would make at most 500 ft lbs reliably.

I am personally aiming for approx 400, and thats with a lot of goodies put into the engine!

Re: 6.2L Diesel

I have been a member of The Diesel Place for a couple months. I cant afford The Diesel Page, I emailed them a question and they told me to buy their book, so I called them a bunch of greedy bastards because they couldn't even tell me one thing.

The only thing you are going to build there is a timebomb. The diesel page is worth the price. Trust me. You will spend more on broken parts than the fees. These guys have already broken everything for you.

Re: 6.2L Diesel

How good are the 24v 6.2l diesels that the military used? Do they come with a lot of problems or is it a good engine?

Re: 6.2L Diesel

if you want 750ftlbs reliably and relatievly cheap and still get good fuel mileage..12 valve cummins is your answer. You also have to consider a drivetrain that can handle that kind of power.. 750 ftlbs wrecks stuff

Re: 6.2L Diesel

There is a guy in the "Projects and Builds" section with a 12valve in a 72'. Ask him he would definitely know.

Re: 6.2L Diesel

i have a 6.2 wuth a banks turbo and it is ok,I am kinda getting tired of the little quirks of these engines. I'm looking at selling this truck and getting something with a gas motor. IF you get that kinda of torque out of one of these motors it will not last long. the block will crack or the crank will break.
