Stuck shift lever....wtf?

On my 66 GMC, the column shift lever (powerslide automatic) is frozen in the D position. I mean it's rock solid stuck. I loosened the nut on the clamp for the arm that connects to the transmission and I can move it up and down easily (valve body working fine and easy thru the gears, shift lever still stuck with clamp loose). I soaked the column/mechanism with PBR and WD40 and let it sit for a couple days, but it's still frozen. Anybody ever run into this?

Re: Stuck shift lever....wtf?

I think the lower part of the colmn mechinism is probably frozen up.
You might need to disasemble the column to free things up.
there should be a solid bushing bolted to the lower end of the column, then a spring, and then a metal sleeve that goes up to the shift lever, maybe these parts are siezed up (rust?)
