72', Big block, long pump, electic fans?
I bolted up my new engine frame brackets from meathead yesterday, and got the BBC in the stock location (front holes). I planned on pushing it back to the second set but, I have roller rockers (tall valve covers) and there is no way its going to clear the firewall without some surgery.
Right now I have a long water pump. The donor motor I bought was LWP and thus all of my brackets came from it. I could swap out all of the LWP stuff for short stuff, but I wanted to ask this first. I bought a Flexalite unit (4600 cfm dual with its own shroud) that is 4.5" thick. I have about 3.5-3.75 inches of clearance. Has anyone installed a set of electric fans that they are happy with on a BBC in the stock location with long accessories? I have been hunting all over summit and have come up with a few ideas, but I cant seem to find a fan that will work. I need something about 2.5" thick, pulls at least 2200 cfm, and are narrow in diameter (11-12"). I could set 2 of them offset and weld up my own shroud out of sheet metal. Just throwing out ideas. Of course, I could always just bolt up a clutch fan. Or, take a saw-zall to my rad support and move it all forward (which I really dont want to do). Has anyone done it?

Good luck, I sold off a complete long pump serpentine setup for lack of fan clearance. My MK8 fan is kind of a tight fit with the factory short pump.

Re: 72', Big block, long pump, electic fans?
Yeah... My long water pump and all of my brackets are going up on evilbay to help pay for the new stuff. They will be for sale on the parts board for a few days if anyone is interested
Im gonna sell my radiator as well (31" overall) and go with a 33" so I dont have to modify my electric fans and it will fit the rad 95%. Why not after going through all this trouble. As for brackets, im tired of messing around with the stock ones. Has anyone used this company? http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/ac/...pulleys-10.php

Re: 72', Big block, long pump, electic fans?
The compressor brackets look identical to the ones I got from Old Air for my Sanden compressor. They work well, all the pulleys line up, and the mounting is rock solid. And the original belt fit fine.
The rest of those look nice too. I say go for it. Stock BBC truck brackets are pretty high $$ compared to that.

Re: 72', Big block, long pump, electic fans?
I have sold our duel 12" electric fan assemblies to guys with big block trucks and long waterpumps. The water pump pully sets between the fans. It is exactly 4 1/2" tall to the top of the fan motors. 3 1/4" from the high point in the cages and gets less from there. WES

Re: 72', Big block, long pump, electic fans?
I think that they are 1300 or 1400 per fan, but they cover the entire radiator. I have had one mounted on my 72 BB K-5 blazer for over 15 years and the truck hasn't ever had a heating problem. WES
