Whats the other outlet on my fuel pump for?

Hey guys, I bought a new fuel pump and told the parts guy the motor was out of a 76 monte carlo, not sure if it was or not because the block #s said multiple listings. Its a 400 sb, anyway after I got the new pump on I realized there is 2 outets and 1 inlet.. the old pump only had 1 in/out.

So my Qs are: Whats the other outlet for? I was thinking of using it for a pressure gauge instead of just capping it off, would that work?

I believe the other outlet is for a line going to the charcoal canister (smog control) but don't quote me on that...

it is a return line. You can either T i into the feed line, so it just circulates it back to the feed, or return it for the correct 67 - 70 style. If you cap it off, it'll build pressure and damage the unit and leak, and if you hook it to a fuel pressure guage, you'll only read 1 or 2 PSI at best. (not acurate reading)

I would just get the correct one. When Autozone sold me one for my '75, they guy said "they are all like that, just cap it off". It didn't last very long, then they tried to not honor the warranty because it wasn't correctly installed because of the cap.
