Finally got a classic bowtie!
I've wanted a 67-72 all my life, and today I finally got one... This truck was sold with a neighbor's property after he died; I'd always wanted it since I was a little kid, and I asked the new property owner about it a couple years ago, but was told he didn't want to sell... Then, yesterday, I was headed out to the parents' place and saw it by the road with a "For Sale" sign. He was asking $1200.
I stopped by to look at it - 1970 Custom/10, 350/350. Power steering, power brakes, factory air. Wood-floor longbox, coil springs. No rust above the windshield, but quite a bit of rust below the bottom trim - it was a lightly-used, never washed farm truck. No rust-through in the floor, though! Based on cab wear, it seems like it might even only have 93k original miles... everything in the cab/interior is still clean/tight. I offered him $1000 cash, and he accepted. Pics: |

Re: Finally got a classic bowtie!
I just want to fix it up as a nice cruiser, to do maybe 20% of my daily driving duties... So it'll wind up being a more practical investment than my motorcycle, but less so than my 06 Impala. I'll immediately do brakes/shocks, then, before the end of the year - wheels/tires (stock size), Edelbrock Performer intake with a Road Demon 525 I happen to have laying around, duals with glasspacks, maybe headers, and some ghetto bodywork - I'll prob not tackle the entire thing, but sand everything below the bottom trim as much as possible then use a bunch of bondo and/or fiberglass to get rid of holes, cover with spray paint. For the next few years, I just want it to be a reliable driver that looks good from 15 feet away. Depending on how much I drive it, I may swap to a 700R4. Years from now, when I have more money, I'd like to do a frame-off.

Re: Finally got a classic bowtie!
Thanks. I think I'll pass on the trade... now, if you had a 71-72 3/4 4x4, I'd think a little harder... but actually, for my intended use, a 1/2 ton 4x2 is perfect, because it shouldn't be too hard on gas. $1k is on the high end as far as discretionary purchases for me, but I've always wanted one, and undoubtedly would eventually own one, and, honestly, you never see any of these trucks in decent running condition going for less than 1000 bucks... so it seemed like the right decision.

Re: Finally got a classic bowtie!
You have a rare find in that truck. A lot of options and it looks like it is in its stock condition, something you don't see often now days.
The price was great for a well optioned truck in the condition it is in with a V-8 and auto. Make it safe and drive it for a while, enjoy. Danny |

That truck is actually in great shape for Iowa. Glad you ended up getting it. Is that an air horn or a wolf whistle under the hood? LockDoc

Re: Finally got a classic bowtie!
Looks like a pretty solid old truck. I can't believe how good of shape the dash pad is in.

Re: Finally got a classic bowtie!
Please don't bondo over holes, it will just crack and fall off in six months and you will be at square one.

Re: Finally got a classic bowtie!
Oh, I know, trust me. But right now I'm working 80 hours a week and just need it to look acceptable to pick up a lady in through the summer months. I'm totally willing to make a temporary fix for the time being.
