Don't forget to remove (possably) the battery cables, the washe bottle hoses, the bolts under the radiater...and the rad hoses and tranny lines (if equipped).

You will have to pull the cowl to get to the top fender bolts. The hardest part for me is getting the wipers off. I'm starting this as well this evening on my 72. Need to replace the heater core and pulling the clip is easier than dropping the inner fender. I'm kind of upset about having to do this again, I installed a new core in January when I put the crate motor in.

If you plan on taking the inner fenders off with it, there is 1 big bolt near the back on the inner side. If you are leaving them on, there are screws to remove on the outside where the innner and outer meet up. The cowl should be removed before doing this job, and the wipers just pop off with 2 screwdrivers.
Good luck and keep us posted

"Wipers just pop of with two screwdrivers" Come pop mine off for me then - I fiddled with the wipers for 20 minutes last night and couldn't get them to come off :-(

About the bolt on the lower part of the fender just in front of the doors, the metal around that bolt on both fenders was broken off of the inside of the fender. Is that common?

Lift the wiper arm all the way up, look near the base and you will find a lever attached with a rivet. Slide this lever out, this supports the wiper arm and allows you to just wiggle the arm off the shaft.

The other style wiper arms have a hole drilled through the base, lift the arm, slide a drill bit through the base. This supports the arm and again, just wiggle the arm off the shaft.

Man! talk about timing! I'm planning on trying this over the next couple of days too!

When you guys say front clip, does that mean that i can take pretty much the whole front sheetmetal off all at once?

Yep. It all comes off as one piece. Pretty darn handy for the amount of work your getting ready to do.

Piston, I messed with the little clip that your talking about and still couldn't get it to work loose. Have to work on it some more tonight.

the pot metal and steel they used causes corrosion that makes them tough to move at first.. PB blaster works great for that. It will climb up into the arm assembly and usually makes it so the arms slide right off. If that doesnt work, I've had to make a fork to attach to my slide hammer and "persuade" them off that way LOL.

Re: front clip removal...help

I feel like a retard on this old thread from 2002. Reading back I saw "Dubie".

Where is Dubie now? Wasn't there a whole family of Dubies? Mr. Mrs. and Jr.?

Project finished? Burned out? or just quiet. He always had something good to say. I miss that.
