Another HELP question this time Urgent
I just rebuilt my Rochester 2gc and put it back on the engine. It ran great for about 5 minutes and then I started hearing a loud knocking sound coming from somewhere in my engine but I can't tell where. Next thing I notice is puddles of what looks like blackened coolant from my exhaust pipes about 4 feet long and sprayed on my tires (I have turndowns just after the cab angles out slightly towards the side of the truck). What happened? I plugged the intake manifold when the carb was off so I don't think anything got in it, and I noticed that my coolant is pretty much gone after this happened (it was full prior). My water pump is new so what could be the problem?

Re: Another HELP question this time Urgent
Sounds to me like something fell into the intake...like a nut or bolt and got sucked in...

Re: Another HELP question this time Urgent
Did you check the oil? If you have coolant in the oil I'd say head gasket.
Good luck, Tim |

Re: Another HELP question this time Urgent
Yes I had that happen once. Cracked a cylinder and dumped all the coolant in teh chamber. No smoke only because the nut beat the crapola out of the spark plug and it wasn't firing. Sounds like you need to pull the head

Re: Another HELP question this time Urgent
I have a built 350 with 0 miles sitting in my buddies garage all plugged and wrapped just waiting to go into my truck and I think it might be about time. I just couldn't "fix what ain't broke" but I think this might be a push in the right direction.

I would look first for missing butterfly screw in carb.

Please, no pictures of that. This isn't that kind of board.
