Looking for ideas on shipping something large - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Over in the for sale area there is a canopy I would love to have. Anyone ever shipped something like this? Im open to any suggestions. Here is the thread Im talking about.

pretty sure grey hound woundt be able to ship something that big. have you looked into a car hauler.

I bought a car in Connecticut awhile back and had it shipped out here. It was 1100 bucks and that was before gas skyrocketed. I love that canopy and would love to own it...but not pushing 1500 bucks worth =)

Im afraid the distance will kill any chance of me picking it up.

I say stiff a truck under that thing and haul it across.Maybe you can find a hauler or a guy that`s having a truck hauled that is willing to stick it on a truck being transported.
Jc brought that thing from Minnesota,I think.Too bad it wasn`t that close now.

worth a shot to try - www.uship.com - I had a few things shipped and people bid on your transport - so you can accept/decline them based on price or their feedback (similar to ebay).

Never had a problem with the stuff I have shipped (knock on wood for future shipments) -

Good luck - I think that thing is pretty neat - just using my trucks as trucks though...

i used Uship to find someone to ship my 71 from TN to MD was 600 bucks but was well worth it on a carrier

I posted this on the for sale ad, but I will do it here too.

Here is an idea:
Build or buy a small trailer to set this on and then it would be "easy" to relay west. I am sure someone could donate a junky longbed truck to make the trailer with, or even nicer would be a low utility trailer.
I would be happy to pull that thing through MN !!

Ive met Ben a couple of times down at Bonneville. He's a really good fella. I tried to get him to bring a 59 sedan delivery up here last year and he doesn't come up this way.

I have enough stuff to put together a truck bed trailer but getting there and back is just too expensive. Gas prices have practically doubled the cost.

High shipping cost are going to be a factor when shipping something like a canopy. Some ways that you may be able to reduce that cost is to agree to meet the shipper at a truck stop near his last stop. Example, he is coming west from wherever and his last stop is Portland, tell him you can meet him there at a truck stop of his choice. The same goes for the other end where it is being picked up. The seller willing to meet the truck along his rout. Then a lot of times you can get a truck to pick up your stuff for less than it would cost you otherwise. Also flexabillity of your time and willingness to move on moments notice can help. The less hassle the freight is for the truck driver the less they usualy charge. Some will make small moves like that just to help supliment their fuel bill. Good luck, WES

Thanks for all the tips guys. Looks like he is going to hang on to it for awhile and make a utility trailer out of it...I dont blame him =)

Hey CG, round trip road trip, at least you'd have somewhere to sleep!

why not buy it now, store it out there and then plan a cross country trip with the wife (and kids?) at your convenience. or at least you would have more time trying to arrange a relay back. I like the idea of picking up a trailer, the canopy won't get damaged that way
