Replacing heater core

To all:

I have a 1987 S-10, 4-cylinder, 2.5L engine without A/C.

I need to replace my heater core. It is leaking into the cab. I have searched for all of the screws holding the case in place but I must be missing some since it will not budge.

I tried removing the radio, ash tray, and glove box but still can not get to the top of the case. I am thinking the dash must come out next.

Does anyone know the trick of locating all of the screws.

Thanks

Pete

These aren't real bad to do...

On the right side of the dash, remove the main dash pillar bolt, pull the dash back aprox 2" then install bolt into the hole, this will hold the dash out of the way just enough.

Remove the glovebox door and box. There are 4 screws that need to be removed in order to slide the side case cover out of the way. Once this cover is removed, remove the 4 heater core retainer screws. These screws hold 2 metal bands in place. Remove the heater hoses. If you have compressed air, its a good idea to blow through the tubes and remove any excess fluid from the core.

The heater core tubes are somewhat long and take a bit of persuasion to get the core from behind the dash.. just be careful and dont bend them.

Sounds like you may be trying to pull the main heater box? You only need remove the side panel from the heater casing. It's directly behind the glove box.
