am i asking too much?

I listed my 62 shortbed project on ebay for the second time now. the first time I had almost 2000 views and the bids only went to $3.25. Yes, $3.25. I set a Buy It Now for $800 and the reserve is $650. I need to sell it to pay for a trip in September. Am I just asking too much or is the market down? Would I be better off parting it out?

Re: am i asking too much?

I don't think there has ever been a huge sellers market for our year trucks...
people always want 55-9, or 67-72's
I think that is a great deal for a bbw sf.
maybe the market is down...

Re: am i asking too much?

its not bad, all factors considered. The right person would have to be interested in it. You might even get more for it if you parted it out seperately.

Parting it out may be the way to go it will definitely need the right buyer and if your on a time constraint for the money it will probably come quicker.

Have you tried Craigslist? You're price is very reasonable I would say.

Re: am i asking too much?

I think he has posted that on craigslist before. I noticed it didn't have a bed and he was asking $800 for it. Short beds are hard to come by, at least in fleetside form, and with all the other work it needs I would pass it by. You can find full trucks for $1000 running if you really look. I think if you put a $650 by it now price you might get that, or post it back on craigslist for $650.

Re: am i asking too much?

The problem is that you have accentuated every negative thing about the truck. You need to take more pictures that show the overall truck and point out the positive things like the steering wheel. I'm not saying to lie, I'm saying try to at least present a reason for someone to want it. You obviously wanted it; what drew you to it?

I agree but they are all I have. They are also the ones the guy sent me when I got it. I might be able to get some better ones this weekend but it`s stored a hour away from me so it`s not to easy to just go out and take some.

Yeah i tried craigslist first. I got a couple calls but just "tire kickers". I got a couple emails too, one guy wanted to trade me for a ATV and some lady wanted oe to donate it.

I agree with the $1000 runners but they have all been long beds that still needed some work. Another member here was trying to hook me up with a fleet bed for pretty cheap but can`t get in touch with his neighbor for some reason.

THat steering wheel isn`t even on the truck, says so in my ad. I just don`t like to "lead" people on. I don`t want to leave out what it needs and have them drive from wherever they are from and me having to drive a hour to show it just for them to see what it needs and say "if I had know it needed this...". I just like to call it like it is. I might drop the price but even the motor and tranny are worth my asking price. We`ll see. If I can`t sell it before my trip then I`ll probably end up keeping it. My original plan was to just get it on the road and make a driver out of it.

Re: am i asking too much?

I actually saw your ad running and I bought a diff. one further away, and for more $. The photos you took seemed to only show the front and shyed away from the problem areas we all know about, be honest, show the bed , the rockers, tell what is is, what it isn't, and what it could be. Honesty is what people on the net are loking for....even if sometimes you have to take one in the nutz now and again.

Like i said above, those pics were the ones I got from the guy I bought it from. There is no bed which is why you don`t se a pic of it. I don`t have the truck with me so I can`t g out and just take more pictures but I`m hopeing to be able to this weekend.

Re: am i asking too much?

Id buy it too if you were closer!!! joncustom are you high on paint!? 60-66 trucks are getting more popular and desirable then the 67-72's plus his truck is a short flet big back window that is a very desirable truck! it comes down to finding the right buyer, anything is worth nuthing until you find someone willing to give you cold hard cash!

Re: am i asking too much?

If I were selling it I would just put the carb back on it, get it to run and sell it as a runner. People will pay a-lot more for the same car if it can run, and even more if it can drive and since you have the parts needed why not take a weekend to get it done?

Re: am i asking too much?

The bed is gone because the guy I got it from bought the truck just for the bed. He also has a 66 shorty and needed a bed. It was pretty rotted out anyway. I need the cash but if I still have in in September I`m keeping it. THe wehole reason I got it was it was pretty much all there and with a little work could be running and driving, just minus a bed. Plus it`s a big back window with a wrap arond windshield which reminds me of my old 57 big window I had years ago. We`ll see.

It`s not that I need to put the carb "back on". It didn`t come with one but i have a known runner carb. I could probably get it running with just a battery and a remote start since the radiator is all hooked up and it has exhaust but it`ll take more than a weekend to get it running and driveable.

if it ran you would get more.

it might be worth spending the time to get it running. most people wont buy a vehicle they have to tow.

Re: am i asking too much?

I have to agree, you have ran the truck down in every comment. Go buy a junk holley for $25 at a swap meet and get the truck running, even poorly is better than saying 'it is supposed to have 10,000 miles but doesn't run" That's almost like saying I know I was lied to and it's probably junk. Telling the truth about it's shortcomings is an honorable thing, but don't forget it does have attributed. MENTION THEM TOO!!!!

Re: am i asking too much?

I guess it will just come down to how much work you are willing to put in and how much you are looking to get. honestly, just hearing a car start and run would be god enough to say that it is a runner - people will pay more and you will get more feedback I am sure.

But who knows, maybe you just want it gone and don't want to put any work into it. Try selling it on surrounding craigslist sites for your area. I live in LA so i might post in la, orange county etc.
