Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

Looking for confirmation on the correct throwout bearing to use.

I've got a centerforce (12") clutch to be installed in my 72 K10 (SM465/NP205) and I've run into a bit of a snag.

I ordered the TOB from Summit according to what they say is correct: part# N1716

The bearing looks exactly like the existing one I pulled from my truck. The problem is that centerforce's "Caution Notice" included with the clutch says the following:

WE RECOMMEND THAT OUR THROW OUT BEARING PART
NUMBER N1716 BE USED WHICH IS A SELF ALIGNING TYPE
BEARING

CAUTION: IF YOUR VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A CAST IRON
THROWOUT BEARING ARM
, CENTERFORCE THROWOUT BEARING
N1430 WILL NEED TO BE USED.

I do have a cast fork, but like I said, the existing TOB matches exactly. I called centerforce and the tech there said he wasn't too sure, but if it looks the same it will PROBABLY work. I don't know about you, but I'd like to get it right the first time.
I also found some other vendors selling the N1430 and their description says "SPECIAL TOB FOR ADVANCE ADAPTERS & USED WITH CAST IRON FORK". So I called Advance and they said the N1716 should be ok.

I'm thinking of just using the N1716 that matches but was wondering if anybody has come across the same issue? (searched the forum with no resolve)

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

I used the 1430 on mine but only because I bought it after I bought the clutch and happened to see the caution statement. I just this past week got the truck back under her own power and drove it out through the fields. Seems to work great.

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

Did your old one look like the 1430? And do you have the cast fork?

Thanks

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

I do have the cast fork and quite frankly I don't remember what my old one looked like. Will the 1716 fit on the cast fork without binding?

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

Yea, it fits. It's close but looks ok. Is the clutch your running a Centerforce Dual Friction - 12"? I guess regardless of what clutch it is, it just needs to have the correct reach.

Are you running a sm465?

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

yep, sm465 behind a 350. It is a centerforce dual friction clutch but if I remember correctly it is only an 11" clutch. I think it was a #735552 I bought it new from a guy near home here who purchased it and then realized he bought this one with 10 spline and needed the 27? spline. He went out and bought a whole other set up and had this one that had never been used.

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

Thanks Ace,

I think I'll play it safe and go with the 1430... it's working in yours so there shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks again for your input.

Re: Centerforce Throwout Bearing...?

Hey Ace,

I was about to exchange the bearing and realized they also have a 1430 for an Advance Adapter. Are you running and Advance or just the stock adapter?

Thanks
