Who would have ever thunk it. Another Mike Ervin. Small world.

Oh, and if it was me, I'd be winning by that margin.

Google

Not sure if this still works, but if you put your name on your site, then search Google a couple of days later, you'll find that your site is on the first couple of pages of search results...that's cool cause it didn't cost a cent.

Most search engines are free. In order to get your site listed you have to hit the major search engines and request that they add you to their site. There is usually a small link somewhere that say something like add my site to this search engine. It can take 4-6 weeks for your site to be added (normal). What they usually do is a send a worm into your site to search for works and phrases. When someone types in those same words or phrases your site pops up. The more of that phrase or word you have the higher on the list you go. But theres a catch. If you use a word too many times (and most dont tell you how many times) they will remove you from a result in that search. Hope that helps some of you with your own web sites.

Its real easy, free, and it works!

It is funny when you find people with the same name or at least last name (if you have an uncommon one).

You will need to type in words exactly as they are found on your site. Its just like running a search on your computer except your running a search on all the servers out there hosting.

Its pretty common for it to take 4-6 weeks for your site to appear on a search engine, but you have to remember if someone else uses that same word or phrase more then you they will be ahead of you in line. Plus sometimes your site is reviewed but a real person and they decline you addition to their search engine. They will most likely not notify of there choice. Plus aot of the time they will not allow you to add your site if you get it for free from a common free site provider. Some search engines are just weird about it. There reason behind not adding free sites is because some of them feel that if you were more serious about your site it wouldnt be free. I think the biggest reason is they do not want a bunch of web sites on there that are out of date of never updated. Which happens alot when people get free sites.

Just some info from my expierence. Hope it helps.
