I was wondering if Goodmark Industries' products were as thick as O.E. or if they are thinner as I've heard that some replacement body panels are. Thanks

Bought a set of Goodmark bedsides, I liked em, steel seems to be the same thickness as the stock stuff.

i got a tailgate from em, fells like the original and it hasnt buckled in like most repo ones do. Or so i hear.

I put a 350 on the repro f#@d gate on my 81. Looked like the letter C after that. Goodmark, with my experience seems to be very good. But theyre parts are made over seas so who knows?

Goodmark has some good parts but high prices in my opinion.

I contacted Goodmark direct and asked the same question. They replied that the metal used was the next metric size equivalent available. So yes the metal is thinner, but not much.

I see Goodmark as the best reproduction pannel. Their metal is a little thinner than OE, but that doesn't mean its as good. The metal could still rust out in no time if its cheap stuff. The craftsmanship of the pannels is poor from what I see. The spot welds are very cheap. On one of the bedsides I have , they spot welded a piece in the completely wrong spot. I had to cut it loose, bend it back and reweld. One or 2 welds have already broke and my truck has never even been driven since I've had the pannels. They are definately the best stamped pieces out there, but they are still made in Tiwan, so be careful.

And hey, ya gotta keep in mind guy's, these folks in Taiwan manufacturing these body parts pobably never saw a Chevy or GMC. I'm not insinuating that the stuff is bad, some parts fit well, others don't. It all may be relative as to weather the truck has been in an accident or not. At any rate, GM does put their stamp on it. I hear a lot of mixed reports, and keep in mind that sometimes damages can occur in shipping....

So, I guess there ain't no such thing as made in USA patch panels
available anywhere.My experience with overseas stuff has usually
been of piss poor quality.

Stay away from the doors. I replace both of mine with goodmark and the fit is not good at all. I'll hope to post pics as soon as we get home from the paint shop. The first coat of red went on today after 5 months of waiting. The doors were a lot lighter too. Still heavy, just not as much as the rusted ones i took off. I wish i would have kept the old ones and welded in good patch panels.
My new tailgate is just fine. Just my .02 cents

Here is the text from the message I received from Goodmark questioning their products....

Our door shells are made in Taiwan. No doors are manufactured in the USA. The GM original tooling was scrapped years ago and no longer exists. Our door shells are licensed with the GM Restoration Parts program which means that GM no longer services the part but our is an acceptable aftermaket replacement. The steel used is the closest metric equivalent to what was used originally. Our door shells weigh about 50 lbs. each boxed. I don't know what the weight of an original door shell is. The quality of the door shells is very good, and you should be satisfied with a nice reproduction.

That response from Goodmark sounds like one i've heard a thousand times. Anytime you buy aftermarket, you should just be prepared to make it fit yourself.
