When is gas going to stop? A rant.

I just read an article about the current judiciary hearing with oil executives- their salaries (all five at the hearing) are above 2 million dollars annually and they are crying that they are victims just like the rest of us yet profits of their companies have gone from 12 billion annually to over 40 billion in the past five years. Today it hit $130 per barrel! I am by no means a tree hugger but something has to give. I know that some of you guys are driving these trucks on a daily basis- how are you doing it? I put $40 bucks in over the weekend and another $21.95 yesterday and the stupid gas light came on again this evening. These executives have the nerve or audacity to stand before people and say "We understand your pain, but we are victims of the system as well; it is not our fault that we have made good investments in the past few years". Holy crap!!!!!!!!!! This sounds like the garbage that was used on people at the first part of the industrial revolution, when Rockefeller justifed why he had gold plated plumbing in his house (true fact if not Rockefeller one of the other biggies Carneige or ??? take your pick). If it gets to five the bike is coming out and trips are out, this is going to hurt us all and more importantly it will hurt our hobby and our families (milk here is nearly $5 a gallon as well). Sorry, read the article and got pissed, rant off.

Re: When is gas going to stop? A rant.

I can't see the greed stopping at all, unless by some miracle scrupulous buisiness practices were initiated by these oil barons, and obviously that won't happen. As far as reducing demand as their excuse always is, we have cut down to the bare minimum driving, but you still have to get to work, get groceries, drive kids around etc. The only way we can afford do any recreational driving is have no car payments.

I had do display my feelings by altering one of the big oil companies logos and make a sticker for my truck. MODERATORS---please delete if it is too far over the edge!

No Way should it be deleted. That is Spot On. I'm call'n BULL-Sht on the prices of gas and the profit. My truck costs about 86 cents a mile to drive. What I do is get in and only drive it when I can purely enjoy it. Kicked back with my left foot on the e-brake handle, 67 style and smiling all the way even if it is just for 6 blocks. I used to live on a dairy farm and now I am reduced to drinking skim milk just to afford it. I agree and rant along right beside you. Nice Sticker. David

Re: When is gas going to stop? A rant.

Until we start drilling our own oil, we can expect the prices to continue to rise. $5 per gallon is not that far in the future based on the world price of a barrel of oil, ($132 per 42 gallon barrel). That is about $3.10 per gallon prior to transportation, processing, distribution, taxes, and profits, (profits are about 10 cents per gallon according to the analysts).

It's at 134 I see late this aft. with Whole sale Gas at 3.42...up some 20 cents of late

My truck eats some 35$/day over 4 days of the week
And tomorrow the price goes up again...how much will be interesting.
Premium is 131.9/litre now or $5.01 a US gallon...You folks in the States still have it cheap....er

moved to general discussion.
Whining about the fuel prices does nothing... at least do it in the proper forum... or maybe pull up one of the eleventy billion other threads about the same topic.

i completely hear u and understand, the diesel market is crashing and burning and no one gives a hoot. I currently work for dmax ltd we make the duramax diesel for GM and the market is so bad ive been laid off since march 9 i may go back in june sometime but about 350 of us are getting laid off permanently. 5.5 years for nothing i guess. but yes if we start drilling within our bounds it may not have an immediate effect but the world would say uh oh we pushed em to far. Niel bortz actually had a good segment about this today

Re: When is gas going to stop? A rant.

The real problem comes in where gas was $50 a barrel, it cost us around $1.00 per gallon. At $100 per barrel we should see it about $2.00 per Gal, at $133 thats around $2.50... yet it is almost twice that and the profits are up by about the same percentage which means it is not that "claimed" 10 cents per gallon, it is more like $1-2 per gallon nowadays that is entirely profit to the big oil.
Love the sticker 70gmc

The gas prices are hurting everyone, I am a technician and with the higher gas prices we're not seeing the amount of work we use to. People would rather drive their vehicle till it dies than pay to have it fixed.

Even if every American (and Canadian) used only half their usual amount, the emerging tigers (China, India, etc.) are more than making up for it.

With all those western dollars to play with, (we've exported our manufacturing, tech support, call centres, etc. haven't we???) expect their oil consumption to increase for a long, long time to come.

We (the West) did it to ourselves. We gave it all away in the search for so-called "deals" at Walmart. How are those deals looking now?

Re: When is gas going to stop? A rant.

i think half of the whole situation is manufactured by all the dern tree huggers trying to get people to drive less there is plenty of oil and all for now.. maybe once we get rid of the oil executive in the white house someone will have the guts to stand up to the oil companies ( unless they are profiting from it too)

Yup, very true - we got their economys going, and it's a runaway train now; the only thing that will slow it down is a worldwide recession. BTW, oil hit 133 bucks today.

Re: When is gas going to stop? A rant.

Wish I lived in America "sigh" regular petrol hit $6.40/gal here today. Our government needs to step in as well and do something. Cost $200 bucks this week in diesel for the work ute (toyota). We have at least 30 company utes maybe more and a fleet of big earthmoving machinery, not sure how we are even making money at the moment. I wish I could go back to the good ol days (2002) when petrol was only $4.00/gal

If I was over there I would be converting to propane, I converted my pickup when petrol got to being $4.00/gal here and I haven't looked back since. We have been told to expect $8.00/gal for petrol here by the end of the year.

I think I will be parking up the pickup, completly rebuilding it so I can drive it twice a year when its done.

And now for a line from one of my favorite movies

"when the gangs rule the road, pray he's still out there somewhere"

Its gonna happen!!!

Re: When is gas going to stop? A rant.

Remember the american dollar is worth 35% LESS than it was in the last 6 years so if you had $100.000 it is now $65.000.This all plays into the world situation.America now is 9.3 TRILLION in debt (doubled in 7 years) and considered a bad risk by the wealthy countries. A $135.00 barrel of oil is $100 when you adjust for this.
