Ignition switch

I just bought a 56 so I'm new to these trucks. Before I buy a new ignition switch, I wanted to confirm that there is supposed to be a spring inside to return the key to on from the start postion. Mine will stay in the start position unless it's turned to on. Seems obvious but maybe they didn't come up with this until later years.

Re: Ignition switch

Welcome to the forum.
Mine springs back to on. I think there would be a lot of burned out starters if it didn't.

Re: Ignition switch

If its original with a pedal start it has on and off and acc, it won't spring back. Electric start had a acc, off, on and start and it sprang back to on. You want a switch for an electric start truck such as a V8. There were very few electric start 6's. If your staying with a pedal start then the type of switch you want is a pedal start ignition switch.

Re: Ignition switch

It seems to be original, the bezel says off, on and start. It works properly except for no springback. I would like to find an original style switch with the acc position.
