Thank you 1969stepside. Everything except the tins and speedometer are either new or NOS in it, including the woodgrain bezel... Painfully expencive to build. WES

Right you can get repo junk that the wood fades out 50 times faster than oem, the chrome chips off if you even think of touching it with something, edges are not trimed as nice as oem ,

I think people who restore cars should be forced to buy 3 nos parts a chrome part, a fabric part, and a body panel. then buy the same repop. (say for the other side of same vehicel put the parts on and tell me what you really think. Then in 5 years get back to me again piss and moan , chromes pitting and flaking off , fabric is faded out, just can't get panel to fit right rusting blah blah blah.

Then you will know why NOS parts are 3-4 times the price because there worth it.

Husker, There are reproduction woodgrain bezels with the chrome outline, but they are not that good of quallity. WES

Another question and not to hijack or anything. Why do the Tachs yellow and the the other quages stay white?
I have a Tach dash I got here on the board and the white on the tach yellowed and just about every one that I have seen is the same.

Good question,Ron.I don`t have an answer,unless...maybe if you had to count thousands of revs per minute for all that time you`d yellow faster than the little guys with simple tasks like measureing oil pressure (yawn,it`s always about the same,I`ll just eat another donut and check later),or measuring amperes(while on the phone gossiping with friend,"Hold on,I need to check something.Yep,still in the middle.Now what did Jonny do when Lenny said that to Ronnie abot Jerry?"),Then theres the speedo who only has to measure while moving and can just call over to the guy in the other lane,"Hey,whatcha readin`about now?Cool,thanks!",the good ole temp guage just has to get of it`s but a few minutes after the motor runs(enough time to finish that 3rd donut)and crawl on up about 3/16 of an inch and just sit there.

Are there reproductions that aren`t just mylar over the pebble grain?Wes,I knew about your thing of beauty.Although didn`t know you still had it.I really need the chrome.I`d like to find a bezel with decent chrome,some fade-out expected,perfect would be fantastic,and N.O.S...well,that would call for a holiday.I know where I can get the plastic re-plated,but how to handle the photo-etch?I`m considering taking a Super/Gramnde bezel,having it plated,and using the mylar.It`s just the only option and a knowledgable guy would understand why the comprimise.But,my other thought is,sinceit would be non-original,to use dark walnut veneer.I actually know a "freak" that put veneer on "all" the woodgrain.Yep,the tailgate band and belt mould.It was a show truck and like I said,he was a "freak".The truck had already been in magazines and he tore it apart to make it more perfect.I bought parts that were beautiful that he was replacing.
I really need a ding/gouge-free glovebox applique.Killer,that`s the emblem (nice one,Mine` a SierraGrande,tho).I`m talking about the aluminum insert panel that sit`s in the "flat" of the door with a raised bead around the edge.

(Just too much money) I originaly put it together for my 70 2WD Blazer and now may be installing an 59-62 Impalla dash in it instead. WES

That thing is a gem,alright.Man,I was at Spring Carlisle trying to be conservative and stick to my immediate needs.Didn`t really see what I needed,but did find a few rarer things I will be needing,Like a Z28 double snorkle air cleaner.A guy I was with was hunting an AM/FM for his`72 Chevelle convertible.We were looking at this guy`s wares,restored factory radios...very pricey,and I spot a truck dash under the table.It was a tach/air pressure dash.He said he hadn`t gone over it yet (prolly just picked it up at the meet) and he`d take $200.I passed since it wasn`t something I really had to have.But,I`m considering bags in place of coild on my 4/6 drop project truck that I don`t want to c-notch,yet still haul a bit with.At the end of the day my friend said he wouldn`t mind if we went back by there and I said,"Nah,I can do without it".It sucks being financially challenged these days.There was atime when I `d buy,then figure out if I needed it.Once home it started working on me.The next day I ran back up just to see it was long-gone.Oh well,it`s not like I don`t already know about snoozin`n`losin`.But,I learned again.

LOL,I guess that`s how I ended up with a couple buildings of parts.But,I`m building that`67 GMC from what I`m pulling out or buying what I don`t have from selling what I do.
I have to dig,I may have a dash that`s been out of a truck since the early`80s.Chrome should be decent.Or,is that the dash I gave old No-Neck back around `95 for his`67?
I now I already used the glovebox piece.

Not that I know of.You can only get the bezels that never had woodgrain with a mylar woodgrain sticker.The CheyenneSupers and SierraGrandes had their own bezel with a smooth plate over that pebbly grain and a photo-etched woodgrain ,like the door panels.I don`t believe the aluminum/photo-etched woodgrain applique is made for the glovebox,either.If I don`t find these I`ll take a chrome door and rechromed bezel I have and put a heartwood walnut veneer on them.But,that leaves me with doing the door panels and I can only do the flat center.Maybe I`ll leave them off until I can find the original pieces.
