Talking Factory 2WD w/ 700R4 Tranny

Now I know this combo is out there, The question is this ..........

Can anyone get under their's to measure the driveshaft?

I'm stockpile'n parts for "GQ"s demise and I need a measurement.

Depending on how low you go with it will effect the length of it. It might not be the same as someone else's. Just a thought. Personally i'd wait til I got it in to worry about it.

Re: Factory 2WD w/ 700R4 Tranny

We plan to do the tub, engine, drivetrain, etc all in one day so I can drive it

That is the main reason I am trying to get the stuff all laid out in advance

I'll say it...ain't no way Jose'.

Pulling off either part of that in one day and doing it right would be a feat in itself but definitely keep us posted.

Well....I like to set small easily attainable goals that way I can reach them and feel good about myself, but all that in one day...you never know.

Re: Factory 2WD w/ 700R4 Tranny

Keep in mind "GQ" runs and drives, we are just swapping the frames over. I think
it is very possible. We are going to attempt it during my cookout this November.

Just make sure you pass out the adult beverages AFTER the swap and not before.

It sounds like an episode of Overhaulin' "Tennessee style"!

Yeppers, we do something at every cookout, this will be a large attempt. Last
year we swapped clips on a Blazer from a 72 to 67 and removed a A/C dash

That was the year before last. Last year we just ate & BS'd. Oh yeah, we put the top back on the Blammy. I knew we did something.

Craig, I could send you the measurements that I used to get a driveshaft made for my swb with a 700-r4, then subtract 11 inches. Note quite scientific, and I'm not 100% positive that it would work, but it might be worth a shot.

Re: Factory 2WD w/ 700R4 Tranny

Just put one in my '72. 4-6 drop. I cut 3.25 out of mine and it's about .25- .35 shorter than the recommended 3/4 inches of shaft showing. Best bet is to measure it on yours though. A slight difference in engine location, height, etc. is going to throw the number off.
