Posi rearends
Can anyone elaborate on the differences, if any, between a posi from a leaf spring rear end and a coil spring rearend?
Someone on the board has a rear end from a 70 leaf spring, and I have a 70 coil spring. |

Differences are in the mounting, the internals will swap.

the shock mounts for the leaf rear shouldnt be too bad to build, or you can cut em off an old diff. good luck

jimkshortstep4x4,
Thanks, I should have elaborated a little more, because you are the only one that understood what I was trying to say. I am interested in the carrier, ring and pinion, and the axle specs(i.e. 30 spline). Are you saying that a 12 bolt truck, 3.73 posi, carrier and ring and pinion, is the same regardless of leaf or coil spring. |

70 longbed, sorry i misunderstood the post......the internals will swap as Jim posted(30 spline axles). if you have a 70 diff, the 71-72 axles should swap (if you want 5 lug). the 67-69 housings & axle shaftes were a little narrower. as far as carriers, the 3.73s are on a 4 series carrier (3.73 & lower). the 3.07s are a 3 series carrier (3.07- 3.42?)....... the posi will swap with an open carrier, if the same series.
