Newbie Questions

I just picked up an 84 Silverado, and am in the process of making the list of things to do. I need to go through and replace the vent window seals and door glass seals. I haven't had a chance to pop off the door panel yet to see what I might run into, but was curious if I could get some guidance on what is needed, and if there are any special tools I should have on hand. Also, would it make sense to go ahead and replace the window regulators at the same time as they seem slow (power)?

This is a great site and I've already found a lot of very helpful information, pics to come after I get all the dirt and grime washed off of the truck.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Newbie Questions

I remember when Classic Trucks did their box-style buildup, they replaced the vent window seals. They said they wished they'd gone ahead and just replaced the whole vent window assembly at once. Might be something to look at. It's what I would do.

Re: Newbie Questions

Sometimes, if you catch it soon enough, you can take some white grease or graphite and grease the wheels on the regulator (the part that attaches to the window). I’ve seen them work like new after but if they’re already gone it’s too late.

Also check out Summit, Brothers, LMC, Jegs, and JC Whitney, I like chouses so I shop them all. I usually end up back at classic though.
