What did you get done? 05/25 Memorial weekend edition

I spent the weekend working around the house when I wasn't running service calls. I detailed my daily drivers yesterday, and did yard work today.

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 05/25 Memorial weekend edition

ok.. I'll start.

Putting finishing touches on the '87. Motor sounds great! A bit more radical than I expected, but that's never a bad thing.

Changed out one of the coil springs in the front with the stock one to raise her up a bit. With the 454 in there, 2 1/2" spindles and springs cut 1 1/2 coils she was pretty low. Stock spring added over 4" in front, so I have to start from there and get my ride height adjusted. I'm thinkin' BAGS!!

Started installing new Lokar throttle / TV cable kit. Hope to get her on the road next week.

Re: What did you get done? 05/25 Memorial weekend edition

well the weekend isnt done yet but thus far it has been very productive truck wise. the weather has been great so yesterday i took off the very weathered stock grille and painted it and spray bombed the core support while i was at it. the chevy emblem on the grille was missing and i had bought one from a member here back around christmas so i put that on the grille even tho its a bit too big it looks alot better. I also put the piece of chrome on the right fender so the grille surround is complete
Went under the truck and installed the splash guard that goes from the inner fender to the frame and then started some on the interior. I changed out my door panels to the grey and replaced my inner handle on the right side that wouldnt allow the installation of the cover, and i also installed the stainless strips i had gotten from another member here
In a recent excursion to the junk yard i had gotten some factory speakers for the dash and i put them in and re set the dash pad. i tried hooking up the rear speakers but the set i got out of the rusted burb were toast so they have yet to be done
a footnote ive posted pics of using a power window door panel on the manual window truck ( left side) anyone got any ideas how to make that look better??
some pics of the progress

Re: What did you get done? 05/25 Memorial weekend edition

Worked a little Sat & ran a bunch of errands that ate up most of my day. I did play around w/the layout of my sbc to LSx motor adapters & transferred everything to some steel plate.

Today I cut the adapter plates out & test fit them to the block. While installing them, I found the outside bolts for the drivers side exhaust manifold had both sheared off flush @ the head (previous owner must have forgotten to mention something about them ). I had to clean-up to spend some quality time w/the GF (went out for a nice dinner & then to see the new 'Indiana Jones' flic). It was a decent movie w/the typical rush of action/adventure.

When I get home from work tomorrow I might get to play around w/the LSx stuff a little more.

Another Craig's List weekend. Scored a factory front bumper then the guy asks me if I need a radio, factory AM/FM!

Also went to the Suffolk Raceway Reunion, met Don Garlits and Bruce Allen. Very nice weekend!

DARN NICE FIND! Lookin' forward to more pics...

My weekend was pretty well planned-out to do a complete front brake job on my GMC 1-Ton, had the rotors turned, all the parts together, etc., but I ran into a bit of a snag... see my post;

Re: What did you get done? 05/25 Memorial weekend edition

Welp washed waxed her up. Started clean up. Bought a few odd and ends and made a quick vid of my truck just cause i was tired of taking pictures. I know it is not the best quality and yes i know the cargo light is not rare at all. Don't mind the FS sign in the window. Just a joke for my parents

Also tore the 350 outta the parts willys chopped the frame and loaded the trailer full of scrap. Cleaned and started painting the 350 to go in the 56 willys wagon. Sold a fridge on cregslist. Went for a bike ride and messed up my parking lights.

All in all a fun weekend.

Why is it that I act like an a$$ on video.....

Finally started on the control arms, got the passenger side off the truck and broken down. I still don’t have the bushings out but I’ll mess with that when I get the driver side off. Bought a parts cleaning basin for $70 at Harbor Freight, a new seat and a new door at the junkyard.

Is there sound to that video?

Pulled the old 4 row copper/brass radiator and replaced with a new aluminum rad with 2 rows of 1" tubes. Also fixed my A/C leak and recharged the system. Yesterday I got the camaro back on the road and touched up the tune a little.

Replaced a lower control arm, installed some 2" drop coils, new upper ball joints, new front wheel bearings, new front seat belts, and got an alignment. Replaced spark plugs and tuned the Q-jet secondaries. Tried to install a new front bumper, but the frame horns are a little tweaked, need to fix that first...

I love long weekends!

Re: What did you get done? 05/25 Memorial weekend edition

Friday i had 2 new tires installed on the front that will not rub hopefully!! BFG 245 60 15's! If they do I'll move them to the rear and step down another size. It is a drastic difference from the 255 70's that were on there! I then tried to get it alligned only to find out that I had the upper A-arms installed wrong. I had the main rod going through them rotaded backwards and the spacer that keeps the shims flat on the wrong side. So guess what I went home and fixed Friday night!! Actually it wasn't bad to fix at all, just took the tires off and put a jack under the a-arm, loosened the 2 nutts and pulled the a-arm out and rotated the bar and reversed the procedure. An hour and I was done. Lazy alignment shop I guess as I did it in no time...Saturday I woke up and took it for an alignment at a different shop. The poor guy had to mess with shims for quite a while. I ended up helping him for about 3 hours until it was with in specs! Everything under the front end is new, so it definately needed it! I decided on a paint shop to finish it up and it will hopefully I will drop it off this week!!! I need to start a build thread one of these days.... I need some ideas for door art and tailgate art now!
