Power Steering Identification help needed
My 1969 GMC 1/2 ton has about 1/4 to 3/8 of a turn play in the manual steering box. I am considering my options to change it.
I have a couple other parts trucks with manual steering boxes in them, but I am thinking if I am going to the trouble why not install power steering. First picture shows my truck engine. Truck has a 305 from the late 70's in it. From the searching and reading I have been doing I understand what waterpump I have might be of concern. So what waterpump do I have? My crank pulley has 3 groves and my water pump pulley has 2 groves. Would I run the power steering belt over both the crank and water pump pulleys?

Part 2
When I bought this truck the PO included a power steering pump with the truck. From the pictures below any idea what it is from? Will it bolt on? It seems to need hoses, how hard are they to come by?

you can use any pump for 72-8X, that steering box will work. Getting the right brackets for pump should be easy, you have the long water pump so just get brackets off an engine with long water pump.

you use the back pulley for your pump also, btw I put PS on my 71 chevy, but it has a short water pump different setup.

I have no idea what you have going on but from what I encountered. Get from the doner vehicle all the pulleys & brackets. Pwr Str, crank pulley, water pump, pwr gear box & hoses, belts. This way you keep all long pump or short brackets to align everything. One wrong U will be fighting or throwin a belt or cursing something.

P/S use the back pulley only, yep you have the short water pump bracket on the your P/S pump also the P/S pump is different also. You can still buy both P/S pump rebuild at Auto Parts Stores. Will take some pictures of my setup, and one of a long water pump setup. This is a been their done that for me, on both short and long setup. BTW I think I have a P/S for a long water pump will look tonight.
