From your experience: what radio/stereo fits

I'm searching for a replacement radio/stereo to fit in my 70 Chevy truck's dash. Unfortunately someone before me slightly modified the cutout for the rectangular nose piece. It's slightly wider now....button holes remain untouched, but the damage has been done. The original non-working AM radio was in there when I bought it but there is a noticeable ~1/4 " gap on the right side of the radio's chrome "nose piece". I've seen Pioneer stereos in these trucks but have yet to find one that claims it would fit...Would love to put an original radio back in...but I have this gap to deal with...It will most likely never look right again without a considerable effort to fix/weld it...so an aftermarket is probably the best bet. Another thought...Is there another GM radio that fits right in place?...say 73-87 Chevy...could get an AM/FM type rather reasonabe from what I'm seeing on e-bay... Thanks, Bob

if it's been modified, then the sky is the limit. Put what ever you want in there, and cut/repair as needed to do it.
Personally, I say go for the good sounding tunes.

Re: From your experience: what radio/stereo fits

If you're reluctant to cut any further, I think someone made a faceplate to fit the area where the radio goes out of aluminum. Probably would look good if it was polished and/or maybe painted either a contrasting color or the same color as your truck.

Otherwise, as Longhorn Man says, since it's been altered you may as well get the one you like.

Oh, one other idea... I made a mounting bracket on my 68 GMC that goes on the bottom of the heater/blower control area to hold a cheapo AM/FM radio that I had. Someday I'll get a radio made to fit our trucks since mine hasn't been altered. Just waiting to see if they ever come down to where I can afford one...
