TBI swap questions

Just picked up a complete TBI motor with all wiring and accessories. Got a few questions for you guys that have done this swap into a 67-72.

1. Where did you mount ECM? I have factory AC. I thought about glove box?
2. Where did you return the fuel at? I no longer use the original vapor canister line, can I use that?
3. I even got all the cruise control items, except switch. Anybody hook up a CC and what did you use for a switch?
4. One last question; anybody do any aftermarket upgrades to TBI to improve performance/MPG?

Re: TBI swap questions

My ECM is under the dash on the left side near the column support.
You can use your vapor line as a return. I made a return thru my sender since my 68 doesn't have the vapor evap stuff.
As far as the cruise, that's a great idea. You'll have to check the wiring diagrams to see what kind of signals and switching the switch uses. I bet some later model tilt column switch would work. You'll also need the speed sensor from the trans and the right stop lamp switch.
As far as mileage, there are some folks making economy chips. http://www.tbichips.com/

Re: TBI swap questions

I put a tBI motor in my 67 and i love it. I installed my ECM right behind my glove box on top of the factory ac unit it just sat on top and the glove box held it in place, that was just a temporary place until i installed my vintage air but i never had any problems with it. I installed a blazer gas tank under the rear of mine so i cant really answer the vapor line question but it should work. I dont know about the cruise control but it sounds like a good idea to me. As for mileage, with the 700 r4 and mostly highway drivin i have been gettin around 19mpg. here are some pics of my junk.

Re: TBI swap questions

Its not really a "kit". It was a fairly simple install. First i started out with an old school 350 block. I have a friend that has done one of these swaps before in a toyota so i got alot of the parts from him. All of the injection stuff(heads intake throttle body etc..) are factory gm parts. the Wiring harness is a painless harness and it was well worth the money, it is pretty much plug and play. I would strongly recommend a 700r4 trans with this setup because its got everything you would want, low 1st gear and overdrive and the lockup convertor is still controlled by the computer(2000 rpm at 70 mph, with 3:73 gears). the serpentine setup is not factory on the TBI units, its for a later model 5.7 vortec system. I used this setup for many reasons for one it only has three mounting bolts on each side, it looks better and the main reason was because it was FREE
if you need any help just ask, im sure if i dont know the answers someone on here does

Re: TBI swap questions

i have a pretty good question i'm cleaning up my 87 tbi 350 so i can paint it and install into my71 cheyenne. well my exhaust manifold are cracked and cobbled and this motor has a air diverter valve. that hooks into the egr system.
do i have to have it? will it hurt my mpg?
thanks to any advice...

Re: TBI swap questions

use the tbi from a same era 454 and hog out the small block intake to match port it. supposed to flow about as much as a q-jet. you normally don't need as much air with tbi due to the efficiency of the air/fuel mix, unless you have a bad boy engine that requires more air than a plain jane 350.
