Installation of door solenoids

I installed door solenoids on my doors today. 45lb autoloc. I didn't want to do away with the inside of the door handles do to modding my chrome door panels. So I reconnected them. I removed the door lock mech from the latches drilled holes into the latch mech. to pull straight down on the latches. Installed two exterior buttons everything works well. Anyone need pics or have questions I can answer most of them just respond to this thread.

i'm curious how you drilled through the latch to get the wire in. I couldn't drill it at all, so i welded a bolt onto it and looped the wire around it.

I used an air 90 degree drill w/ small bit. Then enlarged it with a pistol grip type drill with a larger bit. I thought my bits were getting dull but mine are carbine drill bits for stainless.

Yes I am. That was a great help. Really the only thing I needed was the part about modding the latch & where to locate the bracket. Which was right exactly what I needed. Thanks. the rest was..unneeded.

I can cover some of the modding your door latch. If you have your complete window assy removed from the truck it will make it easier in working inside the door frame. But even with my big arms I managed but if the rear window track was removed it makes working the corner easier. Anyway first thing is to remove the latch assy and the rods to your door lock & crank handle actuator. Lub your latch plate so it works well because once you install it with the puller cable you are using a one time cable lock. Turn your latch assy upside down like in the pic & remove the rivet for the bracket that controls the lock. The screwdrivers points to the lever you need to remove. Do that by drilling the rivet using a punch to drive it out. This gives you a straight pull on the arm after you install the pull cable.

Once you get the lock lever removed then you have clear sight without interference for your cable. It will be obvious what you have done. The now exposed lever below & slightly above that lever is another bracket lever that is the catch for your door rod inside & the llever that unlocks the catch when you push the external door handle. This bracket needs a hole drilled in it. Large enough to feed your cable thru with a loop. I used a 90 drill with a small bit & a pistol grip type drill using my compressor. important you will need some sharp decent bits.

If you use a autoloc type kit your new solenoid bracket needs 4 holes drilled on the inside end of your door right below the round plug. Drill your four holes & mount your bracket for your solenoid. Because the cable locks are difficult to smash with pliers I used my vice made a loop and secured the cable with the vice. After installing your feed wire to the bottom of your solenoid mount your selenoid with two screws to the bracket. Reinstall your latch assy in your door. Now put your cable lock on your cable & feed your cable thru your new hole you drilled & make a loop. Feed it thru your lock. Pull all the excess cable thru your lock make a loop and secure the cable with the biggest pliers or vice grips you have.

Now you can use your instructions that come with your kit for all your connections. You will need eyelets & quick disconnects incase you need to remove your doors later without cutting your wires. If you are installing push buttons think about where you want them. I used wire loom & made them as waterproof as I could installed them under my rocker panels on 2 brackets I made. Your power wires should be fused I plan on using a 30 amp breaker as they are hot all the time.

With a little of prior thought and some tape, wire loom, tie wraps, few connectors, & sharp bits you can wire the truck easily. Thanks to a board member he sent me an article out of a magazine that showed exactly were to mount the brackets & what on the latch to mod. Hope this helps someone doing this part anyway. (Tried a pic but wasn't about to remove my solenoids for a good pic of the modded bracket)

I am planning on doing this same mod with autoloc system. Has anyone got the setup with the alarm? Was the article from Classic Trucks, Project Old Skool? I have looked that article over quite a bit.

yup, that was the one. the autoloc system i got came with a few wiring diagrams, and one of them was with an alarm. seems like a pretty simple setup IMO. i wasn't going to put an alarm on mine, but now have decided it might as well.

i also plan to wire up my bags to the remote so that by pressing 2 buttons at once, it will air out. because of the 1 second thing with the brain, i won't be using the remote to air up the bags.

I reinstalled my inside door crank & kept it. It doesn't interfer with the operation of the door solenoids what-so -ever. This way I can keep my inside doors stock looking without screwing up my chrome door panels. Plus its a manual way to get out of the cab. Just reconnect & reinstall the crank assy & rod.

Do you have any pix of the cable on the latch or of the hole in the latch assembly you attached the cable to?

No the pic never came out. And didn't want to remove the assy for a pic. Once you remove the lever for the lock it will be obvious as you understand the operation of the latch.

When you crimp the cable lock just remove all the slack. I even left the excess hang too.
