Should I put the turbo motor set up in the truck?

So, I will probably be getting my Camaro back in the next 3-6 months. I'm going to take the motor out of the truck and run it in the Camaro for a while to dial in suspension and just get a feel for it.

The motor that I have sitting for the Camaro is a 8.5-1cr AFR headed solid roller built to handle over 1000rwhp and spin to 8,200 that will be topped with a PT91 turbo.

By putting it in the truck, I would be able to break it in and learn the Gen 7 software since it will be completely new to me before putting it in the 2,900lb 6-speed road race car. Give me a chance to hammer down on it for a while, pull it apart and check things out before I put it in the Camaro.


Or should I wait to run it until after I test drive the Camaro for a while with the truck motor and just stick it in there?

throw the turbo motor in BUT make sure you let us all see the "breaking in"

by even making this post you've wasted valueable time that couldve been used wisely puttin the turbo motor in the truck.



by the way that fox body that came to fresno is pretty damn quick. beat nates cobra by a few, but nate did completly blitz the tires through 3rd.i fell kinda bad for the fox guys,they traveled all that way to blow theyre stuff up

Hmmmmmmm..... must be nice to afford to have the time & resources to do what you're planning to do.

I do have a better idea.... I have a C10 in my backyard that you could.....ha!!

Of course you should. You do know Horsepower goes stale don't you? If you don't use it, it just sort of evaporates away. If you don't put it to use your going to wind up throwing it out like an ol stale loaf of bread.

Ok.. I think I decided to go and pick up my turbo motor from the chasis guys house. It's been in the Camaro for some time and the car is not finished. I'll grab the Turbo, BOV, WG and manifolds and probably start fabing up the plumbing in the next few weeks.

When Joe is done with the car, The truck will go for a 12 point cage ect.

Now, I'm thinking, this set up is good for well in to the 1000rwhp mark. I'm thinking I will be buying fierglass fenders, hood and front nose pice, take the heavy tailgate off and change a few other things around. Hoping to get it from it's 3,900 race weight to 3,500.

Some of you more experienced guys, I would like to get your feedback on what you think the truck will be capable of at 3,500 and say 1k rwhp.. I need to make sure when I get it to my chasis guy, it can be certed to the number.

Do you have pictures of your headers? I'm in the process of building some for my 468BB - I have started in mild steel but decided to go with SS - Are you running an intercooler?

Trying to push these bricks through the air to get a low 9 is going to be a major feat. As I'm sure you know 1000RWHP would be a mid/high 8 in any 'normal' race car. If you can keep it hooked for a mid 9 with all that power,,in a heavy@$$ truck like this.... I'd say a big kudos was in order

I'm going to be running factory C5 Z06 manifolds as they are a tri-y set up and flow better than any other factory set up. I also choose to go with a cast iron manifold due to heat and stress. They are less likely to crack.


Marv, I agree they are heavy, but 3,500lb race weight is that of a stock 4th Gen F-bod. I've seen a couple 3,600lb 6 speed 4th gens run low 9's. Given they have way better aero, I think it can be done with some time.

Get out the "hacksaw" and wack about 5 inches off of the roof..... that'll cut down on the "drag".... LOVE "chopped roofs"... but they also make a lot of sense when racing.... just look at the "Bonneville Salt Flats racers"..... But for people like me we don't need any "reasons" to chop.....
