What I have been up to...

What's up everyone! Sorry I have been gone a while had to spend a little less time on the net due to some side jobs.

The 496 I'm building went in a different direction than I had planned after I got pissed about my cracked block. Finally found another block and we are back on track there. Ordered a custom grind cam from http://www.hekimianracing.com/ and should be able to order my heads soon. Going to order a set from Shafiroff, he is listing some outragous deals right now with free shipping.

Truck still runs but after I fixed the rear, I had to hunt a really bad vibration down. Turns out that I twisted the driveline as well as twisted the splines in the slip yoke. I broke a bunch of **** with that little escapade. Hopefully things will be much stronger now. My nitrous soloniod went out on me so now I have to replace that .... grrrrr

Re: What I have been up to...

when do you think you'll be back and runnin? I bought a aluminum driveshaft3" with 1350 ujoints and a moser billet yoke for a car 12 bolt. Moser said that it wouldn't work on a truck 12 bolt but driveline specalist said that it will. So i bought it anyway and it works perfect. Hopefully my driveshaft stays together. Guy i bought it from said that it was rated up to 1000hp. So far it's working great. Good luck

Well the truck runs and drives right now. However, I cannot race it because a slight vibration comes in at around 4,500 rpm in 3rd. The guy I used to fix the shaft didn't do a very good job so I'm going to try and talk an old boss in to letting me use his equipment and fix it myself. Can't count on nobody these days but yourself. I'm not taking my truck but a large group of us are going to Elk City this weekend up in Oklahoma......you plan on making that?

Re: What I have been up to...

The Elk City thing is pretty big. They have a big car show, burnout contest, and then the 1/8 mile street races.....I was gonna take my '67 up there, but I don't think it would leave on the street very well. I think I'm going to Ardmore to the regular bracket race instead. Be careful with that street thing in Elk City......

There will be some fast stuff there for sure. I know of several 9 second "street" cars that will be there. Also, be on the lookout for the Red/White two tone '70 chevy truck. It should run a mid 10 if all the nitrous is turned on....Good Luck.

I haven't been to the track in a while but i believe that i'm in the high 10's now, no nitrous as of yet. Sounds like it should be alot of fun.

We are taking some pretty quick cars up there...........ready to have a blast. We will have a black blown 70 nova, a white 71-72 el camino, stealth67 (black 67 chevelle witha procharger) from odessa will be there, and a few of the guys from the oklahoma city 405 crew. look for the dfwss.org gear and you will find me. all of these cars are built to run on two lane blacktop..... Just wish I could take my truck If they are allowed to "pimp juice" their lane, it could get real interesting.

I'm sure they can "pimp juice" their lane. Big Chief, Shawn and the boys from the 405 should do real well, just wish I had my truck set up to leave on the street

Re: What I have been up to...

LOL.....Elk City was awesome!! They had no idea what to expect this year....lol, 405 and dfwss gave them folks a show they will never forget

69trk.....man it was awesome to meet you and your lovely wife! You have a very nice truck that runs extremely well. It's cool to know that you and I are after the same goals. Hope you made it home safe and hope you had fun. We are already planning to make next years event provided they have another one

We have some nice pictures and a ton of footage including your truck. I have a ton of stuff to do this week so I will try to at least post some pictures soon. The video footage is going to be sent to me and one other person for editing in HD so that will take a little time.

LOL....now that I am back, I have to respond to this. The sprayers came out and a few of our guys including Justin (Big Chief) started prepping the starting line and the fire dept said "uhhhh, i'm not sure what you guys are doing but it needs to stop!" We went on to tell them how it was just a home made traction aiding compound and would help the faster guys hook so they didn't lose control easily. They said, "okay, whatever do it your way!"

The street was totally virgin before we started

Re: What I have been up to...

We're going have to put the elk city thing on another post once we get the pictures and videos going. Glad i got to meet you, mabey you'll have you're truck there next year. My wife says hi by the way. I still can't believe they allowed some of those cars out there. Be sure when you get the video to send me a copy. I think my wife is starting to like the racing stuff a little bit more. She was wanting me to find somebody that i could beat, which was hard to do lol.

Re: What I have been up to...

Looks like you guys had a good time. I went to Ardmore Saturday night for some 1/8 mile bracket racing. Truck was having some issues at the hit, but still managed to go 3 rounds. Tore into it this morning to find water in the #2 cylinder. I guess it's time to retire the 396 that's been making passes since 1981, they don't last forever. Best guess is that it made somewhere around 1,500 passes.

I have to say that 69trk held his ground well since that was a nitrous vs. NA race with 69trk NA.
