WIW - 69 LWB / Bagged / New Paint / 68 Clip / 283/400

First, I'm not looking to sell my truck. However, everything must have a price tag IMO. With the summer season coming, I'll be driving it daily again, and will also be hitting a few shows around town as well. And if this year is anything like last, i'll get the question many times, "Is it for sale?".

I always come back with "everything has its price". So i'm curious, what do you guys think is a good to high price for my truck? there are TONS of details in my build thread, but the high level is this. It started life as a 69 lwb 3/4 ton. the PO converted to 1/2 ton and added disk brakes. the engine is a great running 283 backed by a turbo 400. the gears are factory, and are highway gears. when the speedo says 40mph, you're doing 55mph. it's safe to say that you aren't doing burn outs in this truck.

anyways, since i've owned it, i've bagged it all the way around. RE7's, vlair compressor and a 3 gallon tank. 3/8 lines and valves and all of the gauges. it does FBSS.

regarding the body work. the truck is 98% solid. the PO did the rockers 10 years ago, and i had the cab corners done. all trim has been shaved. the door handles, gas filler, antenna, stake holes and roof seem have all been shaved. if i were to rate the body work for all of these, i'd give it an 8 out of 10. I did it all (minus the cab corners), so i know that there is only a skim coat of filler in any one spot of the truck. everything was done with metal getting welded in, not that epoxy crap. it also has door poppers via an autoloc kit. i do plan to have a couple "tricks" up my sleeve regarding the 8 channel remote an my air bags.

Paint: we painted the truck last weekend. Monza Red is the color. it was used on vettes in 69 and 70. it's the high end sherwin williams paint and clear, so it should last quite some time. the paint job is not perfect. there's orange peel. however, i have not color sanded it yet, so it's hard to say how the final look is going to be.

IMO, i'd call this a 10 foot truck. from 10" away, you're not gonna see any flaws in the paint/body work. however, some people say i'm picky and critical over my work.

the clip: i put a 68 clip on it this spring. the clip is solid. the core support was repaired with new metal under the batt box, and all of the chrome is new from LMC. i did the frizzle fry fender mod, but have not done the inners yet. so there are no inners right now.

interior: the interior was also done by the PO, but it needs a few things. door panels, new non faded carpet (the carpet is good and was replaced 10 years ago, but it is fading). the bench seat has been recovered in tweed, and personally, i really like it. the dash is not cut, but has an after market radio. no A/C. wiring is all clean and tucked under the dash.

engine: 283/400. we pulled it and gave it a gasket set last month. based on what the PO said, it has about 35k on the rebuild now. we also threw some chrome at it. it's a 2bbl setup with headman ceramic coated shorty headers. 3" exhaust to the t arm cross member, then into flowmasters, then down to 2.5" pipe going to the back bumper. so yeah, it's bagged, has a gas tank, air compressor and air tank, yet still has tail pipes. I have to give my uncle credit for that exhaust work

oh yeah, it has a roll pan in back. welded in, no seams. It also has an in frame gas tank. i need to finish the filler neck though. the bed floor is wood, and needs replaced. i cut a hole for the pumpkin, and a hole for the gas filler.

wheels: 15" steelies with baby moons and rings.

man, i sure can ramble on about this truck. i think you see i've grown attached to it, but i'm realistic that if someone gave me the right coin, it will go, and a new project will come in.

I'm confident in saying i'm right side up in this project, and we'll leave it at that. so i'm not worried about getting back what i've put into it.

so, what do you guys think?

here's a pic from this weekend. more pics can be found in my build thread.

I'm not very good at this, usually way off, but I'm guessing 15k based on your description.

That's a really cool looking truck!. I'd add some bling rims personally but it still looks cool as is.

12-14. Because I know the amount of work involved & the labor that no one sees.

Judging by what several trucks have sold for on Ebay recently, I think you could ask 15K minimum if someone shows interest. The truck could not be done by a shop for under 25K with the parts you have on it. The last bagged truck that i saw sell on ebay went for 22K and i wouldn't say it was any nicer than yours except maybe the paint and that's only because you downplayed the quality of your paint where they advertised a professional job. But you can't be sure from just pictures.

All that being said, it's worth what someone will pay.

Re: WIW - 69 LWB / Bagged / New Paint / 68 Clip / 283/400

I'd be interested to hear what your ideas on the price are. I have a LWB that i am restoring right now with a strong built 350/350 combo, i am bagging it with a very similar setup as yours. I will have 18" or 20" rims, i have newer chevy seats with integral belts, the tank will be relocated, cowl hood, new 70 front end components, and a lot of chrome under the hood. So my truck will be similar in build components, but different in look. I'm hoping to get min. 15-20K for the truck when completed....what are you thinking for your high price?

Re: WIW - 69 LWB / Bagged / New Paint / 68 Clip / 283/400

honestly, if someone were to offer 15k cash, i wouldn't hesitate one bit. I know of a couple projects near me that 15k would go a long ways on. Unfortunately, they aren't 67-72 truck projects.

my problem would be finding the right project that would leave me right side up when done. I will also say that it seems that and project you build with a ton of $$ stuck in the engine won't see a good return.

i didn't get this project to make money. i got into it to have fun and learn. being able to make some $$ at the end is nice, and helps justify the next one to the wife

I couldn't put a dollar amount on it, but I will say, I love your truck. It's hard to tell what anything is worth nowadays. You could always go to Barret-Jackson, and make a lot of money!

I had my primered '67 stepside apraised at $11,000 last year by my insurance company. Yours would be at least $15,000 to them.

My appraiser was telling me that in Canada if it is cheaper to hire Lawyers than it is to pay out a exagerated appraisal............they will hire the lawyers.

Alot of appraiser are saying trucks are worth 20G more than you could EVER wish to sell them for and insurance companys are fighting back.

Sweet truck!!!

ok, so the economy is different now, and i've found another project I'm thinking about getting into. What are your thoughts on value today? I'm not looking for an insured value, but what you think it should sell for on CL or fleaBay.

Here are some more pics:

Re: WIW - 69 LWB / Bagged / New Paint / 68 Clip / 283/400

I just watched a pearl white bagged 69 w/ 20" centerline smoothies on Ebay. I believe not sell twice for like 10 grand the first time and 9 the second (didn't get to reserve) Supposedly it was professionally built and painted by a shop in Texas. It was nice, but the pearl color didn't look as nice as your red looks to me. It depends on finding the right person. I did see one sell a couple of months ago for around 16K and that wasn't any different than yours other than big rims. I don't know about everyone, but I got an offer for ebay to sell any vehicle for 125 (price if you sell) The listing fees are around $10 with a reserve. $2 without. Craigslist is worth a shot but you have to get lucky with the right local buyer. Best wishes on getting it sold...and please let us know how much you get when you sell it if you don't mind...I'd like to get a rough idea what mine might be worth when I get it finished up.

would you mind forwarding me that ebay ad? or is that that normal fee to list?

i don't watch ebay much, but what do you think is the best way to sell something like this? with a reserve or not? even if it doesn't sell, i'm thinking that if i go with a reserve, and a reasonably low start price, i'll at least learn what people are thinking.

Just the standard fee structure now as far as I know.

I hope someday when you are old this doesn't end up one of those "never should have sold it" stories! Heck, I just sold the engine that came out of the '68 & I feel sad about it. It was the 2nd engine I ever built when I was in high school

i'm sure it will be, but it's not realistic for me to keep multiple 20' toys around. Maybe when we buy an acreage (and win the lottery) i'll be able to keep them around.
